The Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon Episode 20: Bates Motel Edition

24 March 2014 by Jess

Last week, we had our first taste of a season two of Bates Motel in which Michael Vartan plays (probably) Norma’s love interest. Thank. You. TV. Gods. I think a lot of us fell in love with Vartan back in 1999 when he played opposite Drew Barrymore in Never Been Kissed as her English teacher. Then all over again in Alias. But we haven’t been able to see much of him lately compared to those earlier roles. So, I’m super-excited to see him again on a weekly (I hope) basis in Bates Motel! I hope he doesn’t turn out to be the cad that Zack Shelby (Mike Vogel) was!

Michael Vartan

While many of us know Vartan for other roles, he was the main male lead in Monster In-Law, a not-so-great chick flick with Jane Fonda and Jennifer Lopez from 2005. He was the idealized husband, a good-looking, age-appropriate doctor, that Lopez’s character fell in love with. Things are going great until she realizes how close he is with his mother, who is out to destroy her daughter-in-law-to-be so that she doesn’t lose touch with her son. It was in this movie that Vartan played alongside one of Hollywood’s lesser known gems, a pretty gal who goes by…

Annie Parisse! I first saw Parisse in How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, which was a much better chick flick than Monster In-Law. Parisse was the dating savvy girlfriend/coworker of Kate Hudson’s character, who always seemed to know the right answer for everything. She has never become a very big name, but she did get a regular role on a series in 2013 alongside a VERY big name…

That’s right, Kevin Bacon! Parisse played Debra Parker, an FBI agent involved in the investigation of Joe Carroll’s cult, right alongside Ryan Hardy in The Following! Many were upset and shocked by her ultimate demise, but it fueled the hunt for Carroll and gave Ryan and Mike renewed conviction in why Joe was so dangerous and needed to be stopped.

Results: 1 degree of separation!

This was a tough one! I didn’t remember much about Monster In-Law, having last seen it a few years ago, so placing Parisse took a while, but it was quick work from there!

By the way, if you ever see a way to pare down the degrees of separation and point out how to connect the actor in question to Kevin Bacon through fewer connections, leave a comment and prove your movie buff prowess!

It affects chemicals in the body that are involved in the cause of some types of hurt. There are many medicines which give you things you need to be ready on your own terms. About the Blog

This is a place to share my love and excessive fandom of film, actors, and television. I gush a lot, and I complain a lot, usually not simultaneously.

I share my take on the latest movies I’ve seen (some new, some new to me, and some classics that are worth a rewatch), and a little promotion here and there for shows or films that I feel deserve a little more attention than they’re getting.

So, kick back, settle in, switch on, tune in, or whatever you have to do and join in on the love for all things that move on-screen.
