I thought I was done with the week, and then I remembered I hadn’t written up this week’s episodes of Brooklyn Nine-Nine and Growing Up Fisher!
Brooklyn Nine-Nine
Instead of admitting to his feelings for Amy, Jake has decided to reopen an eight-year-old cold case that was labeled unsolvable. While he and the sergeant are able to find some new leads, it still takes them a while until they are able find one that actually gets them to the point where they close the case and relabel it solved.
Santiago was planning get away with her new boyfriend, but she forgot that she had already agreed to help the captain with an event. So, she takes Gina’s advice and decides to lie and say that she has a dental emergency.
But the captain jumps in and tries to help, and puts her in touch with the dentist friend to get her dental emergency taken of care of right away. While Santiago has to admit the truth, that she doesn’t really have a dental emergency, the dentist does tell her that she’s been brushing too hard and has a bunch of cavities as a result.
Before, it was only Boyle who knew that Jake has a thing for Santiago, but after the sergeant sees how Jake is still not satisfied after having solved the unsolvable case, he realizes that Santiago is the real source of his mood and advises him to do something about it rather than try to keep going after things that are not going to make him any happier.
Growing Up Fisher
Katie having trust issues with her parents after she goes to a party that gets busted up by the cops. Joyce wants to give her the benefit of the doubt at first, but Mel is instinctively overprotective and suspicious. But, Katie keeps acting suspicious and Joyce starts to doubt her own instincts as a parents.
Henry wants to say over at Runyen’s house, where he’s never been and hasn’t even met his parents before, but his friend is reluctant because he says his family is really weird. However, after a little time with them, all the donuts he can eat, and a little karaoke, Henry loves how normal Runyen’s family seems compared to his own. But, at bedtime, he discovers that Runyen has to share a bedroom with his grandmother, and Henry’s enthusiasm dims.
When Katie disappears from where she’s supposed to be, which Mel and Joyce learn because he uses the tracker on his cell phone to keep track of his daughter’s whereabouts, they follow the tracker to her location, worried she’s getting into trouble again. However, it turns out she went to pick up her brother, as Henry was embarrassed to have his own parents pick him up after the scene they made picking up Katie from the party the night before.
While this all sounds pretty basic and even a little typical of a sitcom storyline, I still haven’t gotten to the point where I feel like this show is losing momentum or becoming boring, redundant or lazy. I still think it’s really enjoyable and entertaining, and the characters are really starting to develop and become even more fun to watch. The ratings are holding steady so far, so I hope that means this show will not only make it through its freshman season, but get picked up for next year!
