Catching up from last Thursday and Friday!
The Michael J. Fox Show
Double the parties, double the fun, right? Graham has a sleepover planned, and Annie is determined not to let it get out of control like she did with Ian’s sleepovers.
Meanwhile Ian wants to make sure that Graham’s party is a success so he can achieve the level of coolness Ian himself had when he was a kid. He recruits Eve to distract their mom, but both plans go awry. Ian gets the you know what beat out of him and Eve ends up “freestyling” hey distracting conversation topics and ends up getting a little to honest with her mother.
When Harris wins a broadcasting award, Mike wants to take him out to celebrate, but in planning it, he discovers that none of their friends will get together unless it’s a “major life event”. So he tells them, our allows them to believe, Harris has gotten engaged, that being the only explanation they will go along with and show up for.
However, the lies turn out to be a bust when the guys start ragging on Harris’s single life, Harris starts hitting on one of the waitresses, and Mike starts lying about his own marriage to cover for Harris. For once, Leigh arrives to save the by pretending to be Harris’s fiancee.
Once again, all’s well that ends well.
Parenthood
Julia confides in Adam about her incident with Ed Brooks and her problems with Joel, and what does he do? He goes straight to Crosby and tells him–ostensibly to have him keep an eye on their baby sister and Ed Brooks at the silent auction at the school they will all be attending together–but still, that seemed a little jerk-ish to tell someone something that was clearly told in confidence. Julia barely admitted it at all, and I’m sure she had no intention of letting anyone else know about it, even though Crosby is also her brother.
Max loses it at Hank’s shop when Hank has to reshoot some of his own work for a client instead of developing Max’s pictures. Adam gives Hank a book about autism and Asperger’s to help him understand Max better and deal with his behavior constructively in the future.
As he’s reading it, Hank realizes that this was him at Max’s age, too. He fits into a lot of the same characteristics as Max, and goes to Sarah to ask if that’s why his marriage ended, and why the two of them didn’t work out.
Sarah has a date with cute doctor tenant guy, aka Carl. Actually, it’s a “plus-one”, except she learns he’s a doctor and heads up an organization that helps save babies. She borrows one of Jasmine’s dresses, and fully expects the night to be a new attempt to get her into bed, but instead, she is treated like just a plus-one, and is continuously awed by Carl’s accomplishments.
Drew gets a visit from Amy, making his new friend with benefits uber-jealous! I liked Amy until she went all uber-bitch and started cheating on Drew, but it seems she has matured, though not enough for me to trust what happens.
After spending the night with Drew (yes, that way), Amy suggests staying in Berkeley instead of going back to school in Boston. He wants her to stay, of course he does, and she is glad to be back. This is going to be some major drama, if my instincts are right. Her parents are going to lose their shit.
Julia has to talk to Joel about Ed, but she doesn’t come clean, and it may spell the end for her marriage. Dun-dun-dun! Come on, writers, what do you think we are, amateurs? So Julia doesn’t tell Joel about the kiss. It doesn’t mean they can’t go to couples therapy and come out completely revived on the other side.
I don’t know, though, Joel was pretty mad… He didn’t believe her when she said nothing was going on, and nothing had happened. I love Joel, but he has been a bit distant and a bit jerkish this season, and Ed has been a shoulder to lean on for Julia, but I think on this one, Adam might be right–an affair, even a small one, isn’t worth it. She has two kids and I know she really loves her husband even if they’re not on the same page right now.
Meanwhile, Zeek is still trying to figure out single life without Millie. The milk has gone HORRIBLY bad, he’s out of cereal, and the house is a sty. With no other ideas, no grocery shopping or cleaning up in mind, he goes to a diner for dinner and meets another old grouch. They get along famously, of course. However, the new friend, Rocky, puts things in perspective for Zeek, in other words, spells out what he’s been missing the whole time–Zeek should have gone to Italy with his wife!! Blarg! Old men can be so stubborn sometimes!
It’s funny to think I wasn’t going to keep up with this show this season. Though it lacks some of the good, enjoyable drama from the first season, and has added in some soapy, predictable drama, it’s so hard not to love this family, and some of the others who have joined in, like Hank. Gosh, I hope he stays!
Dracula
I’ll bet you thought I had quit watching this one. It started so late and I didn’t post too many recaps from it, so I don’t blame you for thinking that. I almost have quit, more than once. It’s not a terrible show, but it’s not that great, either. I suppose mostly I’m just curious about how the events play out in relation to what I recall from the book, though this seems to be completely wandering away, only using the characters as a foundation, and a loose one at that.
Drac is in trouble in more ways than one: the Order of the Dragon guy stole his painting and has discovered that he is in love with Mina Murray, who looks exactly like his wife from hundreds of years ago. He was seen dancing, quite intimately, truth be told, with Mina at the hospital where her father works, and while that may not be as big a problem for him, Mina is sure to catch some heat from it. And, as if he didn’t have enough to deal with, the Order has found a way to shut down his electricity project. Plus he’s off blood, for most of the episode, so he’s having a hard time thinking clearly.
Lucy is taking tips from Lady Jayne on how to win over Mina, and since her initial attempt–just giving the truth a try–failed, her new strategy is to get Jonathan to stray leaving Mina open for the taking. I don’t get what Jayne’s end game in this is supposed to be, but I don’t like it. It stinks to high heaven and toying with Lucy this way just seems cruel.
Though they have been working together (I cringe at the thought–it’s so against my better literary judgment!), Dracula promises Van Helsing he will kill him, eventually, for pulling him out of that crypt, reviving him, and giving him hope for a life he cannot hope to lead, one in the sunlight.
Again, cringe. I’ll be glad when one of them kills the other, or at least when they become enemies again. Good grief, what a painful plot twist that was! It is hard to keep watching this show every week–it’s so slow, so dark (literally, the scenes are often so poorly lit, it’s hard to see what’s going on), and a lot of the plot points are tedious. I am a little surprised it hasn’t been cancelled, but I suppose if it’s got the ratings, more power to them. I had higher hopes for it, and though I have continued to watch it, they could lose me at any moment.
Up next:
We’ve got a good line-up this week, not overloaded yet since so many shows are still on break.
Monday, according to IMDb, How I Met Your Mother is still off until next week, and though I can’t find specific info on when 2 Broke Girls returns, I’m assuming a new ep will follow HIMYM, but I could be wrong. Almost Human is all new, but it looks like Sleepy Hollow is also going to be off until next week (also according to IMDb).
Tuesday, we have brand new episodes of Agents of SHIELD and Chicago Fire, AND, wait for it, the brand new season of Justified begins on FX!! I’m soooo excited!!!! Apparently New Girl and Brooklyn Nine-Nine are also back this week with new eps (I thought it wasn’t ’til next week, damn it!). Trophy Wife is also back, surprisingly, as they had not set a return date when the winter finale aired, and the new show Killer Women debuts on ABC after Trophy Wife.
Wednesday, we get the beginning episode of an all new season of Psych! I am not sure if it’s the season premiere that has all the awesome guest stars or if they’re going to spread out through the new season, but there are a TON of them! Plus, the series premiere of Chicago PD airs on NBC. Check your listings for the time. AND, AHS: Coven returns to finish off the last few episodes of this crazy season!! Nashville and The Tomorrow People are off until next week.
Thursday, Elementary, Parenthood and The Michael J. Fox Show are also all new this week. The Crazy Ones was new last week (nobody told me!), but it’s off this week, and will return next week, if that’s not confusing enough! Also, apparently I dropped the ball on ABC’s new miniseries, The Assets, which debuted last Thursday. It looks like a ripoff of The Americans (Nice try, guys), but I still wanted to give a look. Since Grey’s and Scandal aren’t back until the end of February, and OUAT in Wonderland is not back until March, this show is running in those time slots. Reign is not back until the 23rd.
Friday, Drac is back with a new episode, as well as a new episodes of Five-0. Also, Fox’s new show, Enlisted, debuts Friday. Check your local listings for the time. I’m not sure if it interferes with these other two, but I believe it airs before them. However, the premiere date for this show has been delayed once, if not twice already, so while I was looking forward to it when I first heard about it, my expectations are now far lower.
Since I missed the new Crazy Ones from last Thursday and Revenge came back last night, when they specifically said they wouldn’t be back until the next week–grrr–I’ll have to post those catch-ups later!
Sunday, I guess Revenge is already back. Plus, don’t forget to watch the Golden Globes on NBC!
