Tuesday Flamethrowers, Batman, 80s Fever & PTSD

23 October 2013 by Jess

Agents of SHIELD

A new fiery character shows up, with a new face to the Centipede project. SHIELD has been in contact with the firestarter for a while, keeping tabs on him, but Centipede kidnaps him to experiment with how his ability works.

The problem is, somebody from the Rising Tide is the one who gave Centipede the location on this new super. Everybody immediately looks at Skye for answers, and she offers up her hacking services to help track the super to Centipede’s offices. Unfortunately, she tracks the Rising Tide leak to a guy she was sort of seeing, and May follows her.

AC is PISSED. We don’t see angry Coulson so much anymore. After New York, he’s way more laid back, but Skye really got his goat on this one.

Though SHIELD isn’t able to save the man with the power to create fire, Skye finally admits the real reason she joined forces with SHIELD. She wants to find her parents, and all she has is a redacted document related to their whereabouts, bearing the SHIELD letterhead. Coulson seems forgiving, but Skye will no doubt be on a tighter leash over the next few weeks, starting with the weird bracelet she and her hacker friend are given.

New Girl

Jess is throwing a Halloween party, and she wants Schmidt to take the night off so that Cece can attend. However, despite his carefree and general chauvinistic attitude, she misses the old Schmidt.

The rest of the episode focuses on Nick pretending to be Michael Keaton, Schmidt’s childhood hero, to get him back to normal and boost his confidence again. The Keaton letters were originally invented by Schmidt’s mother to make him feel better after his parents’ divorce, and his mother passed the tradition on to Nick once they started college together.

In the end, Schmidt learns the truth about Michael Keaton, and decides to move out to learn to stand on his own two feet for a while. But he’s just moving to another apartment down the hall, so it’s not the end-of-an-era feeling that might have otherwise been expected.

Also, Jess says “Batmanmobile” instead of “Batmobile”. Supercute.

Trophy Wife

Pete and Kate had planned a night out with Jackie staying with the kids, but Diane corrals Pete into an 80s night fundraiser at the school, “for their children’s future”. Fun costumes, but Kate is upset that Pete gave in to Diane’s demands once again and ruined their evening out.

Meanwhile, Warren and Hillary discover Jackie’s online dating profile video and offer to help her make a new one with a little more… panache. Bert gets upset that he might lose his mother’s attention to a new man or a new husband, but in the end, she makes the video with her son and balance is restored to the universe.

Chicago Fire

Finally we get a name for Shay’s new attitude: PTSD. After seeing one of their regular guys kill himself, Shay has not been handling the stress well. The new guy (the young, good-looking one) at the house was in the war, so he’s familiar with the PTSD signs and offers a little advice. But, I think Shay is going to have to hit bottom before she gets help.

Dawson has accepted her new guy’s new role, undercover cop. I’m glad he turned out to be a good guy. He looked like he was up to no good for a while there, and now that there’s an explanation for it, it’s all cool.

The Chief finally decides to play by the rules and institute the health checks for the house, but gets some bad news about his own checkup. Peter Mills comes in and tells him he has a protein in his system that might be indicative of asbestos poisoning. After that, the Chief decides to turn in his walking papers, leaving it wide open for Kelly’s old man to replace him.

Up next:

The ranks are thinning out! Sleepy Hollow is off another week (weird they didn’t want to do a Halloween special…), Agents of SHIELD is off until November 5th, and Chicago Fire is off until the 12th!

Wednesday night, new episodes of Back in the Game, American Horror Story: Coven, Nashville, and The Tomorrow People are on. I’ll catch up with Brooklyn Nine-Nine if I can, but it may have to wait.

It affects chemicals in the body that are involved in the cause of some types of ache. There are many medicines which give you things you need to be ready on your own terms. About the Blog

This is a place to share my love and excessive fandom of film, actors, and television. I gush a lot, and I complain a lot, usually not simultaneously.

I share my take on the latest movies I’ve seen (some new, some new to me, and some classics that are worth a rewatch), and a little promotion here and there for shows or films that I feel deserve a little more attention than they’re getting.

So, kick back, settle in, switch on, tune in, or whatever you have to do and join in on the love for all things that move on-screen.
