Brooklyn Nine-Nine
Jake is still trying to prove he is a line work and can solve cases all by himself, but the captain knows he’s better as a part of a team. His efforts are hampered by “the vulture” (Dean Winters, aka Johnny Gavin from Rescue Me and the embodiment of Mayhem in the Allstate commercials), a cop from the major crimes division who swoops in and takes cases away from the squad after most of the work has been done.
While the squad drinks, thinking up ways to get back at the Vulture, Jake gets an idea of how to solve the case and vulture it back.
Though the captain stands up for his squad to major crimes, he intends to write everyone up for breaching jurisdiction and showing up under the influence. Jake takes one for the team, saying he was the only one there, and though Holt knows better, he applauds Jake’s team-player attitude.
This was the first one lacking in comedy by comparison to previous episodes, but I really love how the characters are developing. Gina practically steals every scene she’s in, and Diaz is so badass that she steals scenes in a different way.
Even some of the smaller roles like Scully and Hitchcock are gaining traction (Yes, it is very confusing for me to have another fictional character named Scully. They’re not even spelled differently. It feels a little wrong .)
Back in the Game
Terry wants a night to herself while Danny is still trying to find a way to impress the girl he likes.
Terry pushes and gets her night, so she and Gigi head to a bar and get a little loose–especially Terry. A few too many and she turns into a female version of the Cannon. Super-bitchy and way crass, but pretty funny.
Danny takes a few tips on being a jerk from the Cannon, since his chivalrous tips from Terry haven’t worked so far, just to get his foot in the door with the girl.
It works, but Danny realizes the Cannon was wrong. If he has to be someone else to get a girl’s attention, he’d rather do without her. Thanks, mom. Totally sweet moment there that’s worth watching.
Though the Cannon may be a little too rough around the edges at times (case in point, see the meme at the left), the rest of this show is so funny and so sweet, I hate to think it’s not getting good enough ratings to keep it going.
TUNE IN! GET HOOKED! Pretty please, I promise it’s worth a few laughs and some major girl power.
American Horror Story: Coven
Have I told you how much I love this series? Lily Rabe is back and badder than ever!
Madison and Zoe put Kyle back together, along with a few pieces from some of the other crash victims, and resurrect him. He comes back super strong, a little vicious, and very zombie-like, but who knows? Maybe Zoe’s curse can’t affect someone who’s already been dead?
Fiona has to catch Madame LaLaurie up on the past couple centuries, and seeing as she’s been unchanged during that time, naturally Fiona wants the secret to remaining forever young. For that, she has to visit Laveau and we get to see some real power and hardcore rivalry, plus the first good look at Laveau, who just like LaLaurie, looks as young as ever.
Cordelia it seems has been trying to get pregnant, to no avail. Though her husband’s been ready to do magic to make it happen, she doesn’t want to use it for something that should be so natural for women everywhere else. But when she gives in, boy, does she! I don’t know what she did, but it was hella intense! That scene is why some parents don’t want their kids watching cable. Awkward…
And at last, Misty Day lives! I should’ve known better! Her power has to do with bringing dead things back to life, so of course she’d be pretty tough to kill!
She’s living a somewhat hermetic existence down in the swamps near New Orleans it seems, Stevie Nicks theme songs in every scene, and not so innocent-looking anymore. Though her intentions seem mainly pure and interested in preserving life, she isn’t afraid to feed a couple of poachers to their prey, the local gators, if the occasion calls for it.
And, she has just met Zoe, a girl who’s attempted to capture the resurrection power with a spell to save her dream guy. This ought to be good.
Nashville
Teddy and Peggy are engaged, and when Maddie finds out, she takes off, heading for the only person she feels she can trust–Juliette.
Rayna is still trying to figure out how to stay off the grid with her singing voice out of commission, and has to tell Juliette she can’t continue with the tour. Though Juliette is livid at first, after setting what’s going on with Maddie, she realizes Rayna is right and needs to be with her family.
Deacon seems to be in a good forward motion as he takes a dinner date with his court-appointed attorney. (Saw that coming–she was too good-looking and too determined to win his case to go off as just a two-episode appearance.)
Will and Gunnar butt heads over Gunnar’s song which he doesn’t want to release, and Avery actually plays nice and advises Gunnar to keep the song instead of giving it to the label.
Scarlett is having trouble adjusting to the limelight, and we discover her best friend who we never knew she had has quite a voice herself.
There are so many things going on at once, It’s kind of hard to home in on any one piece of drama. I hope Avery and Juliette make up. I can see how it would be tempting for the writers to glaze over things, but I hope they patch things up.
The Tomorrow People
Steven is having trouble adjusting to his place at his uncle’s company, Ultra, and more specifically their tactics. They are after a new kid whom they suspect is one of the Tomorrow People who has been robbing banks.
Steven is able to get to him, but he can’t convince the kid to take refuge with the other Tomorrow People. Then he has to endure a “debriefing” by one of the members of Ultra who has the same abilities as he has, including a few questions about the underground group of Tomorrow People and their whereabouts.
Despite the name, this is actually a decent show. Though the premise is very much like the X-Men, it stands on its own with its own obstacles and challenges. I don’t think I’ll continue discussing it here unless any major development occur, but it’s worth watching.
