Thursday Funerals, Fundraisers, Flashbacks and Photographers and Friday Conspiracies

13 October 2013 by Jess

The Millers

Mom wants the family to be buried together, but since she and Dad are separated, she wants to be buried as far away from him as the prepaid group plots will allow.

However, the family doesn’t want to be manipulated all the way into their graves and they decide none of them want to be buried together.

The mom, desperate to get her family back on board, even fakes a death to make them agree to the burial plans again. Sad, scary, and not funny.

I’m crossing this one off the list. As much as I love Will Arnett, I just can’t get into this show. It’s not as funny as I’d hoped, and most of the characters are annoying, unlikable, and two-dimensional.

Grey’s Anatomy

It’s the 200th episode! The hospital needs money, so Avery has been chosen to put on a fundraiser. He has someone else coordinate the details, and ends up with a circus.

The doctors are all charming and all manage to get a few big donations or of the evening’s attendees, but it isn’t until one of the performers breaks her leg that things turn around for the better, for the fundraising efforts at least.

When he realizes everybody’s leaving, Avery invites the donors back to the hospital to watch Torres and Hunt repair the compound fracture so they can see what their money will be buying. “How much do you need?” comes the response.

Richard is still refusing care until Bailey puts a terminal patient I’m as his roommate and he realizes he’s still got some fight left in him.

April and Arizona get drunk in a silly cost instead of schmoozing at the party. Not entirely sure what the point of this scene was ever perhaps comic relief. It didn’t really resolve anything.

And, though Derek and Meredith made a pact not to go back to work until they both could go, the evening’s events are too much of a draw for Meredith to resist heading back into surgery, and she gets Derek to join her, so it’s all right in the end.

Scandal

This was a fun one: flashbacks to a few years earlier when Liv first knew Huck and when her relationship with her father was slightly less complicated.

A few words from a homeless Huck about what he did before he lived in the subway push Liv to investigate his claims to be a secret assassin for the government on US soil. It’s not long before she learns her father’s role in the organization, causing her to petition for Huck’s release and sever ties with her father.

Meanwhile back in the present, Liv is working to handle the case for the girl leaked as Grant’s mistress. Nobody is making it easy, least of all Cyrus and Melly, but the girl isn’t helping her case very much either.

You’re really missing out if you’re not watching this show.

Liv is still worried about Jake Ballard (Scott Foley) who she suspects is still alive, going through the same torture Huck went through when he disobeyed an order. She tries going to Fitz, but apparently the organization is completely unconnected to the president and he is powerless to do anything.

As a last resort, she goes to her father and makes a deal for Jake’s life, having to reinstate their relationship as part is the deal. Unfortunately, Huck figures out more about Liv’s father as well and learns that he was the man who ordered his confinement and torture and separated him from his family years ago.

Getting heavy, and it’s only week 2!

Parenthood

Kristina needs a photo for the lawn signs for the campaign, but after Adam looks over the budget, he urges her to cut back on spending so they don’t go into debt over fruit juice and kale chips.

Since Sarah takes professional photos and will do it far cheaper than any other pro, Adam suggests her. Though Kristina resists at first, she comes around and Sarah comes through.

Drew is having roommate issues, and ends up on Amber’s couch too often. She and Ryan decide to straighten things out, and army man makes good.

Victor’s teacher talks to Joel and Julia about having him repeat the fourth grade. Both of them are worried, but Julia looks at the situation and thinks holding him back may be best. Joel disagrees. They plan to do extra reading and tutoring with him, Sydney too, but it’s not clear yet if that will be enough.

Hawaii Five-0

A gruesome double murder leaves a baby without parents and Five-0 is called in to investigate. Danno is the only one with any sense to pick up the crying baby when they arrive. The cops were told not to touch anything, but I don’t think a baby counts in that mandate.

The murder is the result of a hunt for an artifact which has only been known as a legend, or even conspiracy. Chin calls in an old high school friend (guest star Jorge Garcia) to help with the investigation, a guy who’s a hardcore X Files-style conspiracy theorist.

They solve the case, but the baby is still orphaned, and her aunt has to take custody. Danno, superhero that he is, checks in on the new family and brings one of Grace’s old stuffed animal toys as a gift. So sweet. Since we haven’t seen much of Grace this season, it was nice to see Danny in father mode again.

About the Blog

This is a place to share my love and excessive fandom of film, actors, and television. I gush a lot, and I complain a lot, usually not simultaneously.

I share my take on the latest movies I’ve seen (some new, some new to me, and some classics that are worth a rewatch), and a little promotion here and there for shows or films that I feel deserve a little more attention than they’re getting.

So, kick back, settle in, switch on, tune in, or whatever you have to do and join in on the love for all things that move on-screen.
