Sleepy Hollow
This episode is two-fold: the first part of it has to do with Abby catching up with her sister Jenny who has escaped from her institution, and the second part has to do with Abby Jenny and Crane figuring out the next part of the apocalypse puzzle.
Crane and Jenny are really getting along. He is impressed with her combat and weaponry knowledge and skills and she’s just glad that he is willing to believe her account of what happened. Meanwhile, Abby and Crane discover there are a group of sleepers in Sleepy Hollow who exist to further the coming of the apocalypse. Beyond that, they discover that the demon that Abby and Jenny saw in the woods is the one controlling the horseman and the sleepers.
Though Abby can’t make up for the fact that she lied about what they saw in the woods that day, she is now trying to make it up to her sister by helping her get out of the institution and enlisting her help with her and Crane’s mission as the two witnesses to the coming apocalypse.
Yeah, so it’s week three and I’m really kind of hooked. The show has still got The X Files vibe with Mulder and Scully, but this time Jenny’s more the Mulder, and Abby is still Scully. Crane is really picking up on the 21st century colloquialisms. He made a joke after they vanquished the Hessians and got rid of their fancy spell book: “They left without a farewell. How impolite.” Crane has learned sarcasm. That’s awesome. 😀
Agents of SHIELD
Skye is coming into her new role as a SHIELD recruit very nicely. She does have a little bit of trouble with authority and taking direction from from Ward doesn’t come first nature, but eventually she sees the value in what he’s trying to teach her and tries to listen to at least some of it.
The team is sent to get hold of some seriously scary stuff. I can’t remember what it’s called, but It’s gravitanium or something; it basically reverses and screws up the normal gravitational pull of the earth. Dangerous stuff, like I said.
Bonus: we get a guest appearance by Ian Hart, aka Don Konkey from FX’s Dirt, and he is playing the villain, a scientist named Franklin Hall. He’s sort of a villain, because he was trying to do something for the greater good. But the promos all raved about this episode being an origin story. In the last few minutes, we see how that actually plays out, and it’s pretty cool.
The battle while the gravity stuff is doing its thing – though it’s not really a battle, more of a scuffle – is pretty freaking cool, too. Skye actually learned a little grifting in this episode, too, which was all kinds of fun, and even though she’s pretty, I think she could pull it off even if she wasn’t. She does quite a number on the fancy rich almost villain guy that she has to get close to in order for the team to be able to get hold of the gravity reversal material and rescue the scientist.
It is nice to see the Ward and Skye relationship progress as they both get a little bit deeper into their histories and they learn more about each other, as members of a team, of course. I think there may be a romantic element here that we are working towards, but it’ll be awhile, I guarantee it, because this is Joss Whedon and nothing is easy when it comes to love.
New Girl
Schmidt, in his attempt to deal, or not deal, with his breakups, decides that instead he’s going to break up Jess and Nick. Meanwhile, Winston learns that he’s going to have to get his new cat fixed, so he decides to get him laid before he loses his balls.
While Schmidt tries to get into Jess’s and Nick’s heads, he manages to turn them against each other and create a little bedroom problem. It’s all very sitcom-y and funny, but eventually they all realize how ridiculous they’re being, as evidenced by this quote from Winston at their loft meeting:
Ain’t no way in hell I got a cat brothel in my room and I’m the only normal person in this loft. -Winston
Trophy Wife
Kate thinks the best way to win over Hilary who has been lying to her parents is to get down to her level and be like a friend rather than like a condemning parent. However, that plan backfires when Hillary starts to lie to Kate, too. Once they all see the type of parties and friends that Hillary is hanging out with, they realize that she actually is a good kid and they have nothing to worry about, except maybe the lying.
Meanwhile, Jackie has a new career of the week where she makes jewelry and has Bert help her. Bert gets more enthusiastic about it then she does, and even recruits his brother to help, but Jackie realizes that she pushed a little bit too hard and tells him not to worry so much about it.
I don’t know anybody else who watches the show, and I really don’t understand why. It’s so funny–even though it may be geared toward a slightly older audience because of all the parenting stuff, it’s still really entertaining and I think the people in the 25 to 35 age group would enjoy it just as much as the 35-45 group, so watch it, it’s funny.
Chicago Fire
The hunt for the arsonist intensifies, and Herrmann ratchets up his frustration over the rat in the house. The chief has to knuckle down on the rules, but it’s for the good of the house so we can overlook the attitude.
And when Game Day shuts down Mollys’ happy hour booth, Otis comes up with a brilliant plan to get them back. He calls in an over capacity at their bar and redirects all the traffic back to Molly’s!
I think the arson is more frustrating than the rat. At least the new guy is trying to stay off the radar. The disgruntled arsonist is just taunting them. Kelly sees him outside their latest fire call and is ready to pound his face in, and the onlookers pull out their damn cell phones to get it on YouTube. WTF Is wrong with people? I know we can’t put our phones down, but those guys just saved two people and now you’re going to ruin them over a like button? Have you no decency, sir? I mean, seriously.
Up next:
Like I said yesterday, I will be attending a concert for Frank Turner and the Sleeping Souls, so I will probably miss all of my shows tomorrow, but I’m hoping to find an encore of AHS: Coven.
Other than that, I will try to catch up with them later. The recap of Hostages is still coming, and whether it’s going to remain on the roster may or may not be determined this week.
Happy Wednesday!
