Upcoming WEDNESDAY release from Disney is The Lone Ranger! I was a little skeptical at first, Disney does the Lone Ranger? And Johnny Depp as Tonto? But, after checking out some trailers and reading about the film, I decided it looks pretty good. Bonus? The guy playing the Lone Ranger is the almost-too-good-looking guy that played the Winklevoss twins in The Social Network (Armie Hammer). I didn’t recognize him at first, mainly because he looks a good bit older and with the cowboy stubble, he looks much less like a pussy Harvard rower.
Obviously the original Lone Ranger show was before my time, but this one I have no doubt is WAY more action-packed. Jumping off trains and blowing stuff up – like Pirates of the Caribbean only with cowboys. Makes sense, seeing as the same guy directed both, Gore Verbinski.
So, considering this Winklevoss guy hasn’t been in much, I was in for a challenge trying to find the connection between him and Kevin Bacon. But, where there’s a will…
Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon Episode 7
Armie Hammer
Mostly because of the mask and the difference in facial hair, I didn’t recognize this guy. I thought they’d found a newcomer to play one of the most iconic TV heroes of all time! Still, judging from the trailers, this looks like a match made in heaven. While he hasn’t been in much, he got a great start in The Social Network alongside a bunch of actors who are, like him, much better known now than they were when the movie came out back in 2010. One of them is also playing an iconic hero…
Andrew Garfield! Our (new) friendly neighborhood Spiderman! I was much happier with this casting choice than I was with Tobey Maguire (mainly because Garfield is much more the gangly teenager I imagine Peter Parker to be)–though I really loved Maguire in the first two films, don’t get me started on Spiderman 3. But, Maguire isn’t just a superhero franchise star. He’s quite a legitimate dramatic actor in his own right, doing films like Never Let Me Go, alongside Carey Mulligan and Keira Knightley. It’s in The Amazing Spiderman that Garfield met his real-life love…
Emma Stone! This young woman is my hero. Not only is she gorgeous, but she’s really funny! (Sad sidenote: could NOT find a decent picture of her as a redhead, which I like her better as) Everything from Superbad to Easy A to Zombieland, and even dramas like The Help and Gangster Squad, she’s everything a young actress today should be. However, it was a little movie back in 2011 where she worked next to such names as Julianne Moore, Ryan Gosling, and…
Kevin Bacon! Crazy, Stupid, Love was one of my favorite movies that year. It was sweet, funny, and had a great story. While Ryan Gosling and Steve Carrell undoubtedly overwhelmed the publicity for the movie, you may remember a big plot point as “David Lindhagen” that Carrell’s character Cal Weaver continues to refer to, moping about his marriage woes. Said Lindhagen was played by Kevin Bacon. He didn’t get a lot of screentime, but his role in disrupting Weaver’s marriage to Emily (Julianne Moore) was a big part of the story for a while there.
Results: 2 degrees of separation!
Wow! I could’ve gone the easy route, and done the Pirates/Atonement/X-Men link as I managed a few weeks back, using Hammer’s costar Depp as the starting point, but I wanted to find something new. Also, I’ve been looking for a way to use Crazy, Stupid, Love as a link from Bacon in this series, and I finally found one (though I was hoping to use Julianne Moore)! Either way, I’ll take it as a win 😀

By the way, if you ever see a way to pare down the degrees of separation and point out how to connect the actor in question to Kevin Bacon through fewer connections, leave a comment and prove your movie buff prowess!
