The Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon Episode 6: Shakespeare/Whedon Edition

23 June 2013 by Jess

Since this weekend saw the wide release of Joss Whedon’s take on Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing, I thought I’d challenge myself once again to finding the connection between one of the film’s stars, Amy Acker, and the hero of this segment, Kevin Bacon. That’s ACKER, not ADAMS, like we had last week on the Man of Steel Edition!

Amy Acker is possibly one of the sweetest little #whedony gals in the ‘verse. I first saw her, without realizing it, as one of Leo’s stewardesses in Catch Me If You Can! I had quit watching Angel (bad Whedon fan, bad!) during the second or third season, after they killed off Doyle, and before Connor got sent to Hell. Granted, that’s not a bad time to have stopped watching that show–that plotline was a little twisty right around there–but it was definitely before the gang went and rescued Fred from Pylea, meaning I missed out on valuable Amy Acker fun until just last year when I Netflixed the entire show!

But I digress. Amy Acker is in the new movie, Much Ado About Nothing, playing Beatrice, which was just released across the country this weekend. Not being well-versed in Shakespeare, I got to experience this film without any prejudices from having read the play, because this play was not in my English lit curriculum at any point in the last decade. This was a tricky connection to make, because our dear Amy has not been in that many “large-scale” films with very many “large-scale” actors, unlike Kevin Bacon.

Without anymore “ado”, here we go!

Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon: Episode 6

Amy Acker

Amy Acker is mostly a Whedonverse actress in my mind, having been in Angel, Cabin in the Woods, and Dollhouse, all Whedon creations. So, her pool of colleagues is also a little smaller because a lot of the same actors in those pieces cross over into others (Eliza Dushku, Fran Kranz and Alexis Denisof, both of whom are also in Much Ado). However, the pool widened a bit in Cabin in the Woods, where she starred alongside a longtime Hollywood player, if not well-known by name, then definitely by his face and character types…

Photo of Richard Jenkins

Richard Jenkins! You might recognize this guy as Justin Timberlake’s dad in Friends with Benefits, the neurotic ex-corporate guy who helps Jim Carrey and Tea Leoni in Fun with Dick and Jane, or perhaps the somewhat dim lawyer pal of George Clooney’s in Intolerable Cruelty, but wherever you know him from, I have little doubt you’ve seen him in SOMETHING! Jenkins has been in films and TV shows for over 30 years, but has just started to come into the light a little more over the past decade. He was unforgettable as the cantankerous man from Texas in Eat, Pray, Love, alongside a woman known the world over for her distinctive smile…

Photo of Julia Roberts

Julia Roberts! It should come as no surprise to find this lady on the list. If the game wasn’t “Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon”, it could likely be with Julia Roberts, who’s made her way up from silly little rom-coms up to the Oscars over the years. However, it was one of Roberts’ early roles, going all the way back to 1990, that she met this guy…

Photo of Kevin Bacon

Kevin Bacon! These two were in the movie Flatliners, a movie about med students who turn death into a game of who can last the longest and still come back. An interesting premise, but not well-executed. It devolves from a thriller into a weak drama about unhappy childhoods, and pushes the limits of the viewers’ abilities to suspend their disbelief. Worth seeing if you’re a true movie buff, but don’t get your hopes up.

Results: Two degrees of separation!

I was really surprised I was able to condense it to two, because I really struggled putting this post together. I was off on all sorts of tangents trying to connect Amy Acker and Kevin Bacon, but I had a feeling from the start that Richard Jenkins was going to be my key–the guy has just been in TOO many movies not to be a good link.

By the way, if you ever see a way to pare down the degrees of separation and point out how to connect the actor in question to Kevin Bacon through fewer connections, leave a comment and prove your movie buff prowess!

It affects chemicals in the body that are involved in the cause of some types of ache. There are many medicines which give you things you need to be ready on your own terms. What doctors talk about viagra or cialis? It contains Sildenafil. Also known as erectile disfunction is defined as the impossibility to attain an erection suitable for intercourse. Having erectile dysfunction can no doubt complicate dating. Many men take more medicines later in life and some have sexual side effects that will lead to impotency. Some of medications fuel desire. Certain far-famed medicaments can mean screwing with your orgasm. What is the most significant facts you perhaps know know about this?

About the Blog

This is a place to share my love and excessive fandom of film, actors, and television. I gush a lot, and I complain a lot, usually not simultaneously.

I share my take on the latest movies I’ve seen (some new, some new to me, and some classics that are worth a rewatch), and a little promotion here and there for shows or films that I feel deserve a little more attention than they’re getting.

So, kick back, settle in, switch on, tune in, or whatever you have to do and join in on the love for all things that move on-screen.
