It’s that time again! With the long-awaited release of Man of Steel this weekend, I wanted to see whether I could put the man in tights himself, Henry Cavill, head to head with our favorite film actor, Kevin Bacon. It took me a while, but I got a good one!
Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon Episode 5
Henry Cavill
This was a really difficult place to start, because Cavill hasn’t actually been in that many films. However, there was a slew of prominent actors and familiar faces in Man of Steel, so it gave me a good jumping off point. Superman’s ever-tenacious leading lady, Lois Lane, is played by one of my favorite actresses, and a fellow (former) Coloradoan…
Amy Adams! This lovely lady has starred alongside such heavy Hollywood hitters as Susan Sarandon (Enchanted), Clint Eastwood (Trouble with the Curve), Christian Bale (The Fighter), Meryl Streep (Julie and Julia), and, a longtime comedy fav/evil genius…
John Lithgow! While the movie they were in together was neither of their best roles (Leap Year)–not to put it down, I liked it–he’s had plenty of other great roles over the years. While a lot of people know and love Lithgow as a comic icon (as in 3rd Rock from the Sun), he’s also AWESOME at being the bad guy. Sometimes, he’s a funny baddie, like Lord Farquaad in Shrek, but other times, he’s a real villain. We’ll have to go back a ways in Lithgow’s long and fruitful career to bring us to the role that pitted him as the antagonist against another of Hollywood’s elite…
Yep, it’s Kevin Bacon! All the way back in 1984, Lithgow played the thorn in Bacon’s side in the dance movie classic, Footloose. It’s a simple story, but it’s a classic for a reason.
Results: 2 degrees of separation!
Not too shabby! After I started working on my “map” for next week’s “6 Degrees” post, I came up with about a half a dozen other ways to connect Cavill and Bacon (go figure), but this connection actually wasn’t the first one I made! Adams was also in a little (awesome) cult classic, mockumentary, dark comedy Drop Dead Gorgeous back in about 1999 (her first feature) with Denise Richards, who was in that movie that people only saw for the girl kiss the year before, Wild Things, with, you guessed it, Kevin Bacon! I just went with the Lithgow connection because it brought up one of films Kevin Bacon is better known for, Footloose.

By the way, if you ever see a way to pare down the degrees of separation and point out how to connect the actor in question to Kevin Bacon through fewer connections, leave a comment and prove your movie buff prowess!
