I keep seeing promos for The Bridge on FX. This show is going to be SO FREAKIN GOOD! Anyway, on to last night’s recaps!
Psych!
Shawn and Gus get a chance at taking Rachel’s son out for the day, and Shawn suggests The Cirque, so he can pursue a case at the same time. The kid ends up being witness to the discovery of a murder, which mommy is furious about. It’s not like they KNEW there was going to be a dead guy there!
Rachel [to Gus]: He keeps asking me where the circus performers go when they die.
Shawn: Humph! Like they have souls!
Meanwhile, Kristy Swanson returns (from prison) as Marlowe, Lassiter’s accidental criminal chickadee, and reunites with Lassiter. Things seem to be going smoothly until they find out who is Marlowe’s parole officer–a woman Lassiter slept with and never called again.
Juliet comes to the rescue and offers up her and Shawn’s apartment for Marlowe to stay at since Marlowe can no longer stay with Lassiter at his place. Shawn agrees, inadvertently, too wrapped up in his Cirque case to hear what Juliet’s saying. However, after having Lassiter in his apartment, taking baths and cooking, he makes it clear that Marlowe’s stay must be temporary.
Meanwhile, Gus is FURIOUS at Shawn for wrecking his relationship with Rachel, but after a brief heart to heart with Henry, he realizes why Shawn’s been so antagonistic toward Rachel and decides to give him a little bit of a break.
I’m not crazy about the Rachel subplot, but bringing Marlowe back is a definite plan for awesome!
The Americans
This episode was pretty hardcore. Philip and Elizabeth tell the kids they’re separating for a while, “pressing pause”, as he puts it, and they don’t take it so well. They both start acting out in their own ways.
Stan goes medieval on a junior KGB agent when his partner gets taken. The man had followed Philip to one of his asset’s apartments, and picked a fight. Philip didn’t know if he was made or if the guy was just a jealous boyfriend, so he went on the offensive. The guy stabbed himself in the gut as a result of the conflict, and Philip threw him in the trunk and called Elizabeth to help with the medical attention and interrogation.
Sidenote: this dude is FBI–you don’t fuck with the KGB until you’re also a spy, i.e. CIA–that’s how you get yourself killed. Case in point.
They didn’t get anything out of him, and he died before he could tell them anything real. When Stan finds out his partner is dead, it’s the last straw. He keeps cool, but the second he’s alone with the KGB kid, he pulls his gun and shoots the guy in the back of the head.
Like I said, medieval. What a freakin’ moron though–I’m pretty sure he didn’t have the authority to execute the guy, KGB or not. And they’re a little more by the book in the FBI than in the CIA, judging by the characters in all the other TV shows I watch.
Plus, he wasn’t even supposed to pick the guy up in the first place! They were supposed to stand down if something went wrong, and Stan grabbed him anyway because he wanted Revenge. He should talk to Emily Thorne. She knows something about going medieval on people.
Anyway, it looks to be a war between the US and Mother Russia over the remaining episodes, and it looks like we’re down to FOUR! Don’t worry, it also looks like it’s been renewed for season two starting next January.
Up Next:
Before I get into Thursday night’s line-up, I have a couple quick announcements: BURN NOTICE RETURNS JUNE 6TH!!!! Start the countdown! Mark your calendars! My favorite spy and his awesome crew return in just about two months!
And, SUITS RETURNS JULY 16TH!! Apparently they’re moving to Tuesdays this summer (or maybe it’s just for the premiere), but it’s summer, so whatever day they run should be no problem in my schedule. But I’d tune in for Gabriel Macht any ol’ day 🙂
On to the line-up: Thursday night, we have a new Grey’s, New Girl, Go On (on its new night), a new Elementary, the premiere of Hannibal on NBC, and the return of MEN AT WORK!!
I love Danny Masterson, so this show was a no brainer season one. If you haven’t seen it before, it’s kind of got elements of the Big Bang Theory, How I Met Your Mother, and My Boys. Now, FINALLY, season two is here, and I’m going to enjoy it!
As much as I want to watch Grey’s, New Girl poses the catch-up online problem, so I may do New Girl, Go On, I have to check out the premiere of Hannibal, and I’ll catch the encore of Men at Work after that. Long night, but it’s three sitcoms and one drama, so it should even things out 🙂
Happy Thursday!
