Turns out it’s just The New Normal and Justified tonight. Justified has been airing at 10 lately, and I’ve been able to watch my local 9pm block, but they switched things up on me, so, Smash will just have to wait. On the upside, I have a MAJOR ANNOUNCEMENT that I’m super excited to share!!! Read til the end, all!
The New Normal
So we have the big wedding for David and Bryan. Bryan starts getting nit-picky about the details, and anxious about having his mother there, “criticizing” his every move, but after a heart to heart with David, and a heart to heart with his mom, he realizes he needs to let the little things go and compromise on some of it.
As predicted, right in the middle of the ceremony, just like in last week’s 1600 Penn finale, Goldie goes into labor. The guys, Shania, Nana, and Clay all rush to the hospital. It was actually a very tasteful scene–very un-doctor-show-ish–with a happy song playing in the background, masking most of the painful birthing sounds. The baby arrives, ten fingers, ten toes, and one thing the guys could decide on was a name: Sawyer Collins (their last names). Aren’t they lucky one of their names is a modern boy’s moniker?
Shania talks Goldie out of remarrying her dad, because she explains how great both her parents have become while they’re apart. They’ve become the parents she always wanted and needed, and if they get back together, they might change to way things used to be.
Nana reaffirms Shania’s feelings by giving Goldie a rundown of how much she’s changed over the past year too. She’s become a successful LA woman and has outgrown at least some of her not-so-nice old habits.
Happy ending to a happy show. I’m mixed about my hopes for a season two. I have a feeling NBC will renew, and a part of me wants to watch, but a part of me is worried about how much more gimmicky the show might get. It may come down to a battle of the time block in the fall, and depending on which show The New Normal is up against, I’ll make my decision then.
Justified
What a hellish ending to an incredible season! I really have to commend the writers this season–they did an amazing job and put together an incredible storyline. But with Elmore Leonard’s latest Raylan, I know they had plenty of inspiration to look to!
Last week, Winona was left with a predicament of having two rocking chairs, one obviously delivered by a villain trying to get to Raylan. Raylan is on suspension, again, so he has to battle it all out without his badge.
This week, both Raylan and Winona take them on, pregnant as she was, and they come out ahead. Mostly. Except that one of the men says that Nicky Augustine (the hardcore baddie who kept asking Ava about her personal life a week or two ago–played by Mike O’Malley) has declared he’s going to kill Raylan’s family.
Raylan Givens is a stubborn man, so even when Art tells him not to go after Nicky Augustine–how Detroit gangster is that name?–Raylan is sure as hell not going to sit by idly when the man’s threatened his family.
Boyd, once again, helps Raylan get to Augustine, and Raylan, clever guy that he is, manages to pit Augustine against his mob boss’s son in a bloodbath for power. Fortunately for Raylan, the son wins, and Augustine gets taken out without Raylan having to pull the trigger himself.
Meanwhile, Ava tries to take care of her and Boyd’s dead body problem herself, and winds up getting pinched. Boyd shows up to tell her he’ll find a way to get her out of this, but it’ll take a miracle to explain what she was doing with a dead body like that.
So, suspended for a month, maybe Raylan will get to see the birth of his child. That’ll be nice. I know Justified’s been renewed for another season, but I didn’t know when it’d premiere until I saw this. It’s too far away!!!
BONUS:
Diane Kruger is coming to television for a REGULAR SERIES on FX!! I have the biggest girl crush on her, so I nearly screamed in delight when I saw she was the one starring in this new drama, set to debut in July.
Here’s an overview of what the show, called The Bridge, will be about:
It’s based on a Swedish/Danish show called Bron, but to make it relevant to US viewers, it’s set on the El Paso/Juarez border. The story will follow two detectives, from the US and Mexico, who have to track a border-jumping serial killer. Kruger will play Sonya Cross, the US cop, and the Mexican detective will be played by Demian Bichir.
Tell me this doesn’t sound awesome. Seriously. This is right up my alley, even if Diane Kruger weren’t playing the lead. So, thanks, FX! You’ve made my dreams come true!
