So, in a follow-up to Oscar night, first off, I forgot to include Barbra Streisand’s performance! It was really lovely as she sang “Memories” after the In Memoriam segment, and she sounds as good as ever, perhaps better…
Secondly, screw all you people who are trashing Seth MacFarlane. THAT’S WHAT YOU GET FOR HIRING THE CREATOR OF FAMILY GUY TO HOST THE OSCARS!! What the hell did you think he was going to make jokes about? The weather? I thought he was funny–whether you thought the jokes were mean or not, it’s all in good fun. He doesn’t actually hate people, or women. It’s all for a reaction. That’s kind of what comedians are supposed to do.
It takes a lot to offend me, so maybe I’m just desensitized after having so many male friends over the years, watching so many reruns of Family Guy, All in the Family, and South Park, but I think he was a great host. I think the musical numbers were great, and while some of the jokes were maybe a little more colorful than the Oscar crowd is used to, if he’d done this at the Golden Globes, nobody would be making NEARLY as a big deal as they are now. They wanted modern, they got it. End of story.
I still hope they ask him back next year. It was a great show, even if they ran over time, it was tightened up with the speeches and the tributes and the performances were all great. Anyway, that’s my opinion. Now onto those pesky catch-ups from last week!
Go On
Ryan tries to impress Simone by being “deep”. He leaves work to go to a meditation retreat with her and Mr. K, trying to achieve transcendence, but all he can muster is a big white nothingness and an angry NHL coach. He talks to the group about it, and Ann comes through to let him know that it’s better if he’s just himself with Simone than letting her think he’s someone he’s not.
I’m still not big on this love connection. I really don’t know what Ryan sees in Simone, and considering Piper Perabo is still committed to Covert Affairs on USA, how long is this really going to last? (There’s the old logical person looking at this is as a writer instead of a fan, but still, it merits discussion.)
Also, Terrell Owens shows up to sub for Carrie. Interesting choice, but relatively entertaining.
Sarcasm. It’s funny, but at what cost? -Terrell Owens to Carrie
Smash
Katherine McPhee is a much better performer than an actress. I don’t know if it’s the writing or if it’s her, but she either overacts or she just underwhelms. Something’s off. Jennifer Hudson has a similar feel, but she’s gotten better since the Sex and the City movie.
As bitchy as Ivy can be, I still like her in a lot of ways, and I am really looking forward to seeing the new show she’s supposed to be a part of, a Broadway-ready show, as I understand from the previews. I don’t really know much about the role, but it looks like a big break for her.
I really don’t understand these two guys with the new musical either. I know the guy with the attitude is supposed to be a love interest for Karen, but he’s still not likeable and I still don’t see how this is supposed to tie into the series. Their characters are way too predictable and the conflicts there are not very interesting.
If Smash shifts into featuring these two as more central characters to the show, I am not sure they can hold my attention for the rest of the season. Ditto for Jennifer Hudson’s character. I don’t see how she’s supposed to tie into everything. I know she and Derek have a working relationship they want to pursue for her benefit, but it’s not enough for me.
I LOVE seeing Daniel Sunjata come in as the dramaturg to help Julia and Tom with the book. The last place I remember seeing him was the Devil Wears Prada, which I was extremely disappointed in his role there, and before that Rescue Me, which I loved him in.
He’s kind of like an editor, for musicals, on this show. He provides Julia and Tom with feedback about the book and story in order to improve it. So far, Julia hates him, but I foresee a love/hate relationship springing up out of this one.
Not crazy about the new direction Bombshell is taking. Not that I don’t think they should include Marilyn’s other racier historical tidbits (like the Kennedys), but that scene with her and JFK was ridiculous.
I don’t know who decided Julia should think she “hit it out of the park” but I hated it. The song wasn’t that good and, like the dramaturg, I didn’t buy that JFK is the predator. Who sang “Happy Birthday” to whom here!?
1600 Penn
Skip starts his own tour of the White House, promising more of the “real” history than the regular tour does. Becca and DB have to go on TV with Mary Hart to discuss the pregnancy and she ends up tearing up during the interview. Emily tries to get Dale to talk to his brother (more details below), and they end up wrestling on the floor of the Oval Office.
The best part was seeing Bruce Campbell (aka Sam Axe, aka Chuck Finley from our favorite spy show, Burn Notice) coming in to play the president’s brother! While Bruce looks distinguished for his age and even sturdy with his extra size, Bill Pullman just looks a little fat and old (no offense–I still like watching him!) It was fun to see him playing the ladykiller, ballbuster brother character to the president’s no-nonsense character. I really hope that he makes another appearance in the future!
Up next:
CBS Monday night is just going to be How I Met Your Mother. I’ll be watching The Following again instead of 2 Broke Girls, and then Five-0 is off this week.
Tuesday night is jam-packed with new episodes including the premiere of Golden Boy on CBS. It’ll be a while trying to catch up with all of those–that’s 7 episodes in a three hour block!
Wednesday night has new episodes of the regulars, Chicago Fire, Nashville, The Americans, and the return of PSYCH!!! Thursday is pretty empty this week with only a new 1600 Penn–everyone else is off for the week.
Revenge won’t be back for another week, as Sunday (3/3) brings the two-hour premiere of the new drama, Red Widow on ABC.
I’m looking forward to this one a little bit because I love Goran Visnjic, but I’m not a big Radha Mitchell fan, so we’ll have to see whether she has what it takes to pull off the lead on a primetime drama. It looks like another mob drama, so hopefully it fares better than Fox’s Mob Doctor. We’ll have to find out whether it’s got what it takes when it premieres on Sunday.
What do you think of the upcoming show? Watch it, or skip it?
It affects chemicals in the body that are involved in the cause of some types of pain. There are many medicines which give you things you need to be ready on your own terms. What doctors talk about viagra or cialis? It contains Sildenafil. Also known as erectile dysfunction is defined as the impossibility to attain an erection suitable for intercourse. Having erectile malfunction can no doubt complicate dating. Many men take more medicines later in life and some have sexual side effects that will lead to impotence. Some of medications fuel desire. Certain far-famed medicaments can mean screwing with your orgasm. What is the most significant facts you perhaps know know about this?
