New Girl
Things get weird. So Jess and Nick kissed. It was a hell of a kiss. But now Schmidt knows and claims that Nick violated the rule they made when they took on a female roommate that no one was allowed to hook up with her.
This all comes about over a parking space that’s just opened up in the building’s garage. Jess and Schmidt both want it and they tell Nick to decide. Nick at first chooses Jess, but after Schmidt calls foul, the three of them vie for it.
When I first heard that was the synopsis–a parking spot–I thought about Seinfeld. The one where they get lost in the parking garage, the one where George won’t give up a space he was trying to back into, the one with the handicap parking space.
I was afraid the show had chosen a frivolous episode about nothing–sure, it could be funny, but where was the merit? I was mistaken, they turned a simple disagreement over a parking space into a saga over the Jess/Nick kiss. Well-played.
Things are progressing between the two of them as they both start to wonder whether they really can attempt a romance, being roommates and friends.

So, not as good as The Following. Which isn’t that big a surprise. You can’t expect a bunch of teen dreams on the CW to hold a candle to Kevin Bacon and Natalie Zea.
I think it’s just too dark, literally. Too many nightclubs, dark corners, closed spaces. A bit like Se7en in that sense, which may be a compliment. However, there’s not enough to go on yet to say whether this is going to be a good show or not. There are still too many questions to be answered.
Matthew Davis is as good-looking as ever, and his character is interesting, I’ll grant you, but he needs to stop playing the asshole in the horror movie who taunts the ghosts right before they tear him a new one. I know he’s a journalist (or former journalist) and leaving things alone isn’t his style, but even a good journalist should know when to stop poking the bear and run.
I do like the female sidekick, a researcher on the show within a show–Skye. She’s smart, and I think she can keep Davis (Jeff, on the show) on his toes.
It’s also pretty cool to Aisha Hinds back on the small screen. She was fantastic on Detroit 187 (short-lived but AWESOME cop drama), and even though she’s already on Jeff’s case as a suspect in his brother’s disappearance, it’ll be interesting to see him play off her no-nonsense style of investigation.

I did watch The New Normal and Justified, but as it’s getting late this evening as I’m writing this, I’ll have to recap those later, in addition to the other new episodes of Go On and Smash. My eyelid is twitching from too much (computer) screen-time today, so seriously, it’s bedtime for me!
Wednesday night has an all-new Chicago Fire along with The Americans, so be sure to check those out!
