How I Met Your Mother
Ted gets a call from the Captain, whom you’ll remember is his ex’s (Jennifer Morrison) ex-husband (Kyle MacLachlan), and he’s afraid that the Captain is ready to seek revenge.
The entire gang tries to recall the last time they saw the Captain, about a year and a half ago at an art gallery, but Lily’s the only one with the right recollection because Robin was drunk, Ted was high, and Barney was seemingly not there. No idea where Marshall was, but it’s Barney who makes the issue about not being there for the “crazy story”.
They all speculate about why the Captain’s calling and what he wants, because initially, he called Ted and asked for Robin’s number. As it turns out, he got the names mixed up and actually wanted to speak to Lily.
Lily thinks it might be because she stole a crystal ashtray from his house last time, but it’s better. Lily had mentioned how much she liked an elephant painting at the art exhibit and said how she thought the artist was headed straight for the top of the art world.
Despite the Captain’s seemingly dismissive comments about it at the time, he bought the painting and it did appreciate quite a bit over the last year and a half. Because of what Lily said, and how she was the only one who predicted the artist’s success, he wants to have her come in as his art consultant to help him make more investments.
As we know, Lily has been feeling a little despondent lately, feeling like her dreams have slipped away from her, but with this new development, it looks like she might be able to chase them after all.
This is awesome–over the years, we’ve watched Marshall, Robin and Ted all chase their career dreams. They haven’t all worked out–Robin in Japan, Marshall at the bank with Barney, Ted’s own architectural firm–but they’re all in really great places career-wise now, except for Lily.
After failing in San Francisco and coming back for Marshall, she never really got another chance to pursue art. She just came back and picked up again as a teacher. Now that she has this new opportunity, I hope this all works out, and if that means we get to see more of the Captain, so much the better 🙂
The Following
SO CLOSE TO GETTING JOEY BACK! Claire gets a call from Joey who snuck downstairs to use the phone while the adults were still sleeping. While Claire and the FBI get some clues to find the house where Denise/Emma and the others took him, Paul discovers him and takes him away from the phone. Emma has to explain why they brought him here and why he can’t go home, but it’s clear Joey’s becoming suspicious of the woman he once trusted.
Claire gets another call saying she should come into town if she wants to see Joey, but she gets picked up by one of Joe’s followers. Joe is still pulling strings from behind bars, calling upon his old lawyer to make a statement. This seems to set off a domino effect that puts Emma, Paul, and Jacob on the run.
Joey’s no idiot, and tries to escape. He gets as far as a neighbor’s house, but Emma retrieves him and locks him back in his room. The neighbors have just enough time to call the cops to report they saw the kid from the news before Paul comes in and murders them.
The tip makes its way to Ryan who’s already in the area canvassing for a house that matches Joey’s description, and he and a local cop hotfoot it to the house. Like I said, so close.
Ryan makes it into the house, but Paul gets the drop on him and he and Joey are now prisoners with at least two psychotic killers in league with Ryan’s worst enemy. The police and FBI know where Ryan is, so time’s running out and the walls are closing in on the followers–we’ll have to see what happens next week!
I haven’t mentioned it (or haven’t said much about it), but Annie Parisse is on this show as well. I really like her, but she hasn’t really stood out on the show so far. It’s mostly Ryan and Mike who get the most play on the investigation side of things.
I’m hoping she gets more crucial to the plot in the weeks to come, but so far, I just haven’t had much to say about her, which I feel is a travesty on Fox’s part. She’s being underutilized. You hear me, Fox?? Give her more lines!
Hawaii Five-0
SPECIAL GUEST STAR @JennyAndTeets, aka Jenny Mollen Biggs, on Five-0! She’s playing a ballistics expert on the case. I was so disappointed that she didn’t get more screentime, especially since I’ve been hearing about it all week from her on Twitter. The case itself didn’t revolve around the ballistics info, so it wouldn’t have made sense to have her on more than she was, but still, it’s always fun to see her on network.
The guys are excited for the Pro Bowl game, to which they have tickets, but the case derails them so much that they don’t end up making it to the game.
The case follows a death at an employee retreat in which they’re all using pellet guns, but someone shows up with a real one to kill one of the guys. He had some pretty important information on his computer that people were trying to sell, but I picked out the murderer right at the start, so I preferred the Pro Bowl subplot better in this episode.

Up next:
Big Tuesday line-up, New Girl, The New Normal, Justified, and the premiere of the CW’s new show, Cult. (Smash will be recapped later in the week.) The only CW show I’ve liked in recent years has been Ringer, and it got canceled, which was lame, but this one has potential. We saw how Beauty and the Beast kind of got repetitive so I cut it from the line-up, and the Carrie Diaries is a little too juvenile and predictable for me to enjoy it, though I think for their target audiences, they’re great shows.
I like Matthew Davis, even though he was an asshole in Legally Blonde (and a few other movies), so I hope this show is good. With Cult, I really liked the premise from the first time I heard about it last summer. I kept waiting and waiting to find out when they were going to premiere it and finally, it’s here!
However, with another cult story going on The Following, it’ll be interesting to see whether the CW’s show has the chops to make in in the downright awful time slot (awful because of all the competition!) they’ve given it. It’s up against Smash, Vegas, and Body of Proof on the other major networks. We’ll find out!
