New Girl
Jess and Nick have to confront what happened and especially whether the kiss meant anything. Nick apologizes and says it meant nothing, but when Jess gets a little too adamant about how much she didn’t want it and how it was terrible, Nick starts pestering her about how great it actually was.
This all takes place at a Hindi wedding convention that Cece drags Jess to, and which the rest of the guys follow them to, turbans and all.
Jess finally admits to Sam what happened between her and Nick, and he dumps her, giving Nick a good one in the solar plexis for good measure.
Though Jess is upset over her break-up, it’s clear that she’s glad she and Nick are still friends, even if they’re not THAT kind of friends.
Cece and Schmidt end up in bed together at the end, which was inevitable, but I had been hoping for a Jess/Nick thing to happen before the Cece/Schmidt reunion.
Smash
Everybody’s trying to impress in this episode. Derek is dealing with some legal issues when some of the dancers accuse him of sexual harassment.
Eileen gets the group into a big event, but Tom brings Julia under false pretenses just to get her off the couch and the director wants no part of the scandal that’s attached to Bombshell, with Eileen’s financial/legal problems, whispers of Julia’s nervous breakdown, and Derek’s new legal problems.
Karen and her friends go to a party to hang out with the mystery piano player/singer she met in the first episode. However, when she decides to serenade him one of his own songs, he gets upset, knowing it was his writing partner who had given it to her without permission.
The new guy is a little too much of a drama queen to be likable. He’s cute enough, but he better chill out and get with the program or this subplot is going to get really annoying really quick.
Unfortunately the show is not very musical until the second half. One of the big strengths of this show is its use of music throughout the episode, and the drama starts to lag a bit without it.
To show everyone what they’re missing, Ivy and Derek show up at the party to do an “impromptu” number from Bombshell. LOVE the new song–“They Just Keep Moving the Line”. It’s very powerful, and Ivy has a great voice even if her acting is a little over the top at times. The song is a hit at the party, so BURN on all those hoity-toity no-scandal people.
Justified
It was really nice to see Winona back on the show! Even if it was only for a minute. We all know Natalie Zea is busy with her new series, The Following on Fox, but Winona is a crucial part to the future of this show because she’s carrying Raylan’s child. It’s nice to know she’ll be around from time to time for that reason, though I’m still hoping the two of them will work things out 😉
Both Raylan and Boyd end up tracking the same man for different reasons. Boyd’s getting paid by Winn Duffy to hunt him down, and Raylan wants Arlo to stay in prison. Arlo’s making a deal to give up this man Drew in exchange for his freedom.
Both of them end up asking a man called Josiah about Drew’s whereabouts, and they both get the same story, leading them into the hills. They both get captured, but luckily, Raylan manages to get their release on account of being kin with a woman named Mary.
Raylan: What are you talking about? No sense of humor? This is funny. [after handcuffing Boyd to a tree]
Boyd: I don’t like you, Raylan!
Raylan: Never liked you much either, Boyd.
Everybody’s got an angle–just as any Elmore Leonard character should–and they’re all working against each other without knowing it. Ella May is alive and well, taken in by the local sheriff who wants her to help him bring down Boyd. Cousin Johnny wants Boyd out of the picture so he can take over, and seeks Duffy’s help. And so on, and so on.
The question is: who’s going to hit first, whose hit will land, and who will come out still standing.
