How I Met Your Mother
After Ted proposes his Dobler/Dahmer theory about a girl who picked him up at school, Barney discovers Robin had an obsession of her own back when she was Canadian teen pop sensation Robin Sparkles.
So Barney does what he does best: investigate. He goes to Canada and interrogates her old boyfriends to find out who the song “P.S. I love you” is written about.
The group discovers grunge Robin, aka Robin Daggers, but Barney still hasn’t figured out who the song is about. Once he admits how easy it is to become obsessed with something, Robin explains it was P.S. Paul Schaefer.
Ted finally realizes his girlfriend crossed the crazy/hot linear progression into crazy the more he learns about how they met.
The Following
This episode goes even further into the past as it explores the lives of the followers as they were just getting to know each other. More than that, it looks at how Ryan and Joe first met, and how excited Joe was to be able to “assist” in the case.
I have to say, I’m really loving this show more every week. I especially enjoy the perspective of the new book subplot, with Joe working through each chapter and the followers carrying out each task to propel the story further.
Because I’m working on a book of my own, it’s interesting to see the story evolution from that perspective. It may sound dark, but it’s purely academic studying how a crime drama is written.
Hardcore pushing Joey into the cult mentality though. I hope they find that kid before those guys corrupt him too much!
Hawaii Five-0
McGarrett’s pulled into a dramatic and unusual case from the past as a serial cop killer seeks his revenge on the guys who foiled his bank robbery decades earlier, and caused him to lose both of his hands.
This was a remake of one of the original Hawaii Five-0 episodes and it was kind of a doozy. It was hard for me to believe that a guy with two prosthetic hands could pull off such a caper, but he was by far one of the more determined and dastardly villains the team has gone up against.
Unfortunately for Steve, his father’s involvement in the bank robbery means he has to take the fall and the shooter has a bullet with his name on it, literally.
With prosthetics, this guy patiently carves the lettering into the bullet shells on the intended victims with a handheld engraver.
Because he knew the first two cops who were killed, Steve is a little more emotionally invested in the case than usual. Thus, he takes a few more risks to catch the killer than even he usually does, putting Danno on edge even more than usual.
All’s well that ends well, though, as the killer is felled from a rooftop vantage point by Kono’s sharpshooting skills. I didn’t get a chance to watch the original episode, but now that I’ve seen the remake, I have to admit I’m curious to see the differences.
FYI: the original show is available on Netflix. The episode is from season 6.
