This one looks completely stupid in the previews, but this was probably one of my favorites that I’ve seen lately! I am a secret Topher Grace admirer, and I think Anna Faris and I would be best friends if we knew each other because we both have a tendency toward profanity and being somewhat unladylike.
The story follows Matt, his twin sister Wendy, and his friend Barry through one night of party craziness in the 80s. Matt has been in love with Tori since high school and always regretted not making a move, so when he comes back from college (working in a video store) and meets her again, he is desperate to impress her to get his shot at finally asking her out.
The overplayed, particularly 80s-sounding plot aside, this was a hilarious movie. Topher Grace is at his That 70s Show best in terms of the ability to play the dork who gets the hot girl, and Barry, played by Dan Fogler, is even more hilarious as his night goes crazily awry.
The hot girl is the typical hot girl with money and a little bit of attitude, but she does have a human side, and she becomes likeable as the movie progresses. In some movies, the hot girl (or guy) turns out to be too unlikeable for the main character to stay with them after they win them over, but in this one, she actually comes through as a decent female lead.
Complete with sex jokes, cocaine, and a dare to get in a giant metal ball rolling down a hill, this one is worth the time if you’re in for a laugh!
