Last Resort
This was also a season finale, and frankly, I’m a little surprised the show made it this far. From what I understand, the ratings haven’t been that great and personally, it’s been a little difficult for me to follow, so I’m sure other viewers have had a bit of trouble too. I’m not very good with war/military settings in the first place, so it’s been a bit of a challenge for me to follow the plot and keep up with the characters.
The finale made it a nice one-season show, kind of like a mini-series, and I do have reports that it’s been canceled and will not be picked up for a second season.
The crew finally gets home, with the exception of Marcus who goes down with his ship. Christine makes it back alive, with the drive that Kylie gave her and goes straight to the reporters. Tani talks James into giving up his mercenary life. Kylie, on her surprising own, walks right into the party her father is holding and pulls a gun on the president.
That last would have been a great cliffhanger for a second season, but it wasn’t meant to be. However, it’s always possibly a cable network like TNT or USA could pick up the show, or even Netflix, as it’s done with the long-canceled but far-from-forgotten Arrested Development.
Grey’s Anatomy
Meredith and Derek have pregnancy hormones to contend with now, and can’t seem to find the time to mollify them.
The hospital has brought in an advisor, Alana Cahill (Constance Zimmer, you may recognize her as Dana Gordon from Entourage), to help “trim the fat” and cut expenses so the hospital can handle the payout and keeping the hospital solvent.
Meredith’s case is a pregnant lady with liver failure, whose sister is a guest appearance by Navi Rawat (Numb3rs). Shane accidentally destroys a perfectly good liver, so Meredith, trying to keep a grip on her sanity, has a hard time dealing with him.
Arizona is dealing with some phantom limb symptoms, and she and Alex have to contend with their orphan program possibly getting the axe with the cutbacks.
It was always the Meredith Grey way to jump headfirst into a problem, especially if it was a scary one, and she got on that plane to Portland like a pro.
Derek takes on a lengthy surgery with his new hand, and refuses to allow the physician advisor into the OR while he works. The patient is a young man he was supposed to operate on before the plane crash, and who has been waiting for him to get better.
Kepner teaches Stephanie how to run the pit and gets a date with a paramedic–a cute one. Unfortunately, the advisor advises to cut the ER because it costs the most, diverts the most resources, and will help keep the hospital afloat.

Dale has tracked down the guy who impregnated Becca, a guy at Old Navy named DB. Skip immediately connects with him and tries to get him and Becca to get to know each other better.
Meanwhile, Emily and Dale have to host Austrian dignitaries and Emily makes a social and political faux pas not serving lunch on the Habsburg china. Worse, Skip takes the china for his staging of Becca’s date with DB and when Emily tries to collect it and take it back, she hits a bump in the carpet with the tray and the dishes all fall and break.
While Becca first dismisses DB as not being a good fit to involve in her life and her baby’s life, she decides to give him another chance.
I also thought it was pretty cute how Skip calls Emily “Momily”. A nice compromise for a step-parent name, I thought.

I missed Suits last week, and wasn’t able to catch any of the encores, so I’ve contented myself with the recap on the website and some clips.
Sidenote: I didn’t say definitively whether I’d be featuring The Carrie Diaries on the blog here, but here it is, definitively: I’m not keeping it. I may watch a couple more episodes on my own, but I’m fairly certain I’m not going to keep it in the line-up.
ABC Sunday is on break this week, as well as CBS Monday. The Following has a new episode Monday night, and Tuesday, we have new episodes of Justified, New Girl, Go On, and The New Normal, as well as a one-hour special block of Happy Endings.
