American Horror Story: Asylum
Kit lives somewhat polygamously with Alma and Grace and their children, but as Grace becomes more obsessed with the visitation and abduction she experienced from the aliens, Alma becomes increasingly distressed and afraid of their return. Without warning, Alma kills Grace in the middle of the night, and Grace goes the same way of her family–by axe. With that, Alma becomes a new patient at Briarcliff.
The Monsignor arranges for Jude’s release (is this before or after Lana’s visit), but the longer Jude stays in Briarcliff, the more disconnected she becomes with reality and time and before she knows it, she’s been there over two years.
Lana is now a successful author, having sold the rights to her book to Hollywood, but she is still bombarded by specters of her captor, Dr. Thredson, and her ex-lover, Wendy. It isn’t until she sees Kit again at a book signing that she realizes how far her perspective has shifted from her original plan to expose the ugliness and cruelties that exist at Briarcliff.
Building up to the finale, which is promised to be riveting, it’s impossible to speculate what will happen. Bloodyface Jr. is fixing to meet up with Lana in the present day and confront the mother who abandoned him. Other than that, we’ll just have to wait and find out on Wednesday!

Juliette files for divorce and Sean contests with a petition for annulment. At the end of last week’s episode, Juliette was on her way to her wedding, gown and all, but instead ends up at the airport to board her private jet. I was kind of surprised that they were actually filing for divorce.
I thought they would talk it through, but I guess considering Sean was the first time a guy said no to her for sex, and that was probably the motivating factor behind her proposal, it’s not that surprising after all. Juliette finally concedes and gives him an annulment, admititng to fraud, but it’s more to sever ties than because she feels she did anything that horrible.
After the umpteenth guitarist leaves, Rayna asks Liam to jump in temporariliy until she finds someone for the rest of the tour. However, when Juliette gets on Liam’s bad side for going too long on her sound check, Rayna wishes he’d stay on longer.
Teddy gets a visit from Peggy, and while it’s clear there’s still something between them, they try to keep it casual and congratulatory on his win for mayor.
Totally cheap play sending Scarlett in to get raped by the rock star. Scarlett gets a backstage pass to hang out with Deacon and the Rebel Kings and the lead guitarist, who has become increasingly jerk-ish and egotistic, tries to have sex with her. Scarlett’s a good girl, so obviously she tries to tell him no, and Deacon has to push past a pretty good-sized security guy to get in there and rescue her.
Classic damsel in distress, but it was pretty pathetic to see a storyline like that. Yeah, the guy’s a jerk, we get it, but was it really necessary to orchestrate an almost-rape to get Deacon out of his tour gig? It just seemed too contrived and over-played for me to buy into it or feel much of anything about it.
I much preferred the arch with Gunnar’s brother in this episode: Gunnar has a skeleton in the closet as he turns down spending time with Scarlett (who no doubt would have prevented the rape scenario to begin with) in order to pick up his brother who is out of prison. His brother it turns out, taught him to play guitar and when Gunnar was 16, robbed a convenience store with a gun.
Also predictable, his brother jumps right back into the life of crime he got put away for, and Gunnar stands by helpless to change his mind. I would have liked to see this story play out more, but I don’t think it will.
The problem with this show is that the writers try too hard to create drama where none exists. It’s a soap. Leave it soapy and romantic–that’s it’s strong suit–and forget the parolee brothers, the damsels in distress, the political backstabbing, the drug addict moms, and all the other stuff that is supposed to make me appreciate the show’s and characters’ depth, but just makes me see how desperate the writers are for material. Leave it to the romances and triangles, as overplayed as triangles are, because that’s the only interesting part of this show.
Suits
I love this show. Not only because Mike is adorable and Harvey is sexy, powerful and the most well-dressed man on television, either. I love seeing my wonderfully intelligent and strong #whedony alum, Gina Torres again on TV. She is brilliant as Jessica Pearson. Not always the nicest person at the firm, but you don’t get your name on the building without cracking a few eggs.
At the end of the last season, Mike and Rachel were just about to follow through on the flirtation that has persisted for so long, but then she catches him with a married woman and it all falls to pieces. Mike tries to talk about it, but Rachel basically tells him he missed his chance. When he hears how disgusted she is by the fact that he’s been sleeping with a married woman, he decides to end it.
Meanwhile, Harvey is still pursuing the British woman, Zoe (Jacinda Barrett, who you probably recognize as Zach Braff’s gal from The Last Kiss or Joaquin Phoenix’s gal from Ladder 49). It seems to be going well, until she realizes how committed he is to being with her. Her brother is dying, and she will probably end up with his daughter, and with that much baggage, she seems convinced that will turn Harvey away.
Harvey is a badass, and he the king of the hit it and quit it squad, but he also doesn’t give up on something he wants. If he wants Zoe, don’t tell me he won’t get her because that ain’t how he rolls.
Louis was just made senior partner last season and that means he gets his own Mike Ross-style associate. He’s found something with the cute recruiter Sheila (played by Rachael Harris–you probably know her best as Ed Helms’ psycho girlfriend, Melissa, in The Hangover), but it involves him hiring her best candidate.
Unfortunately for Louis, the candidate knows Mike Ross didn’t go to Harvard because she would have remembered him. Donna does an excellent cover-up explanation for why she wouldn’t have known Mike while she was at Harvard, but when Jessica finds out what happened, she demands Louis rescind his offer to hire the candidate as his associate.
I can’t wait to see what happens next. This is one of those shows I got hooked on a little late. Thanks to Jenny Mollen’s advocacy of it (she did a guest appearance in season one), I happened to catch it on On-Demand last year and I was hooked. It’s smart, funny, entertaining, and hardcore for a lawyer show.
Up next:
I’m still working on catch-ups, but hopefully I can wrap up by Monday!
