Parenthood
Julia is still hesitating about the adoption, until surprisingly, she talks to Crosby. His faith in her allows her to put her relationship with Victor in perspective and she decides to take the leap and finalize the adoption because she finally feels like she and Victor’s relationship will develop beyond its current plateau.
Mark has coffee with Sarah, mostly for “closure”, but after seeing her, and especially after hearing that Hank kissed her while they were engaged, he confronts Hank telling him he wants to win her back. Hank is understandably upset by this because he’s so terrified by change and he clearly isn’t sure he’ll be able to compete against Mark, with whom Sarah has more history and who is overall a nicer, younger, and better-looking option.
Sarah has become such an unlikeable character. She seems to be in her own world too much and has no idea about how her actions and her decisions affect the people around her. When someone gets upset with her, she is always mystified as to how she caused it. As a parent, sibling, daughter, and girlfriend, that’s not exactly something to aspire to.
And the ridiculous writers felt no need to follow up on the abortion scandal that was headlining the previous week’s episode. Where was Drew? Where’s his reaction? Does Sarah know why he was crying? If she did, why didn’t she say anything to Mark when they met for coffee? Which she would have because it would go back to Mark catching Drew and Amy having sex and to his concerns about seeing the two of them upset in the hallway at school. Lame. Bad writers.
Amber visits Ryan for the first time since they split up and tells him the secret to getting on Joel’s good side. I am so glad they brought him back. I really liked him, so it’s good that he has an “in” again. Amber’s tactic worked, and Joel agrees to give Ryan another chance. Also good. I am really impressed with Amber though. When this show started, she was a spoiled, headstrong, obnoxious, unlikeable teenager. Now she is a beautiful, still headstrong, completely lovable young woman. She seems to have a better grip on how the world works at her age than even her mother.
After Renee comments on Jabar’s eating habits, Crosby talks to Jasmine about confronting her and asking her to mind her business on some of the parenting issues. When they sit down with Renee, Crosby is suddenly on his own, as Jasmine decides to agree with her mother rather than rock the boat.
When Max finds out he can’t get the vending machines back, Kristina gets proactive. She does some research and brings the matter to the PTA with some new solutions on how to help Max achieve his goal. The vending machines returns, albeit with some healthier snacks than Max’s favorite Skittles, and Max is the hero. It was great to see Max succeed and have that feeling of popularity and success, and it was great to see Kristina do something and forget about her cancer for a while to help her son.
Private Practice
After a slight delay with the Amelia episode, we’re back on track to watch Charlotte give birth to the other two triplets. Charlotte’s water broke, but her progress is pretty slow, so Addison has time enough to go to her hearing for adopting Henry and Cooper and Mason head to the house they bid on to win the homeowner over.
Cooper has to compete against the perfect couple to show the homeowner that his family deserves the house more, but finally, he’s called away when Charlotte is ready to give birth and fortunately, they get the house so that all six of them can have a new home with a little more space!
Violet is having a hard time when she meets a man at a bookstore who recognizes her from her book. She flirts with him and realizes it’s the first time she forgot about Pete for even a few minutes. As much as she wants to move on in her grief process, she isn’t really ready to start dating again, especially because it’s the villain from Iron Man (the Scarface guy, not Jeff Bridges, Faran Tahir). That would be weird because he was such a good bad guy and now he’s playing a bookstore clerk?
The cast of doctors all visit Georgia in the NICU and talk to her about their own problems, veiled as grown-up advice to a child. Interesting play as opposed to doing regular conversations with adults or inner monologues, but not winning me over.
Sheldon finally tells Sam about his radiation treatment and how he met Miranda (Diane Farr returns!). Sad that she’s dying, but it’s about time Sheldon confronts his cancer and tells his friends about something he’s going through.
Last but not least, Addison’s adoption is delayed because of a last minute recommendation by her case worker against Jake. Addison is afraid she will have to choose between her son and her man, but Jake makes it so she doesn’t have to. He goes and speaks to the judge to explain the situation.
His feelings about fatherhood and his feelings for both Henry and Addison show the judge that he’s a good guy, but the one that seals the deal is when Jake says he’ll leave Addison if it means she gets to keep Henry because he knows how important it is to her and he believes that she is meant to be Henry’s mother. He returns home with the official documents stating that the adoption is finalized, and asks Addison when the wedding will be.
Charlotte finally delivers, and has her two new babies to meet: Caroline and Rachel.
Wondering if the finale will be a courthouse wedding for Jake and Addison (remind you of McDreamy and Meredith’s wedding, anyone?). We’ll have to see. Last episode ever of Private Practice airs Tuesday, 1/22. It’s been fun, rocky, and beautiful start to finish, and I sure will miss seeing Kate Walsh on ABC.
