CBS Monday: Overplayed, New Endings, and TV History

17 January 2013 by Jess

Robin’s dad doesn’t trust blonds, so Barney goes brunette for a couple days.

How I Met Your Mother

Barney meets Robin’s dad, and from what we’ve seen of him before, he’s a little scary.

Barney: Vampire in the daylight! Vampire in the daylight!

Ted is desperate not to let Barney and Robin get a wedding band instead of a DJ, and admits that it’s because he still wants to be with Robin. I was a little disappointed that they went with this storyline. For the millionth time. Yes, the Ted/Robin saga was a nice beginning, but it has never played out well. I’m over it.

Ready for the Barney/Robin saga to get a good foothold. I always liked them together, and the show spent so little time on them actually being together. They are perfect for each other and the show should let that play out. Let Ted meet the girl with the yellow umbrella and have done with it!

Also, sort of a twist, Lily admits to resenting motherhood a bit. Is it post-partum depression, or is it something deeper than that?

Lily was kind of a wild one when she was younger, even after she met Marshall, and it was kind of ripped away from her because she’s been with Marshall so long and all he ever wanted was to become a lawyer, get married and have kids. She missed out on some things, not for nothing–she obviously loves Marshall and would never have come back from San Francisco if she didn’t.

Now that she has a baby, she’s feeling a little nostalgic for things she missed, or things she still wants to do but can’t with a young child.

2 Broke Girls

The girls win a weekend away in a cabin and when Andy shows up and thinks the trip is for him and Caroline, they plan a third wheel trip, with Andy thinking that Max is the third wheel.

The “deluxe suite” turns out to be a one room suite, with one bed, and everything but the air costs extra. Max and Caroline befriend a couple of “bears” and Max retreats to their room when Caroline and Andy get into a fight because she forgot his birthday.

Andy breaks up with her, because it seems she has no interest or priorities when it comes to making time for him. It was gentle break, but it’s still a little sad. I was always rooting for Max and Andy to get together because I felt like their sense of humor was more in sync, but in any case, I hope this new development doesn’t mean Andy won’t be on the show at all anymore. He does run the shop across the sidewalk from the cupcakery, so I hope he doesn’t disappear entirely.

Hawaii Five-0

Danno’s nephew comes for a visit from New Jersey. Danny is supposed to try to knock some sense into him–the kid is a little goofy and more interested in playing pranks than making something of himself, but the experience of Danny’s job and probably some of what Danny actually says to him, gets through and the kid decides he wants to work in a crime lab.

Respectable job, if he can get hired somewhere that isn’t running on budget cuts… Sorry for the pessimism, but it’s true. It’s an in-demand position in terms of workload, but there’s more need than there is money to pay the people working the job.

Kono’s witness comes back from the mainland to testify, but the real reason has to do with his desire to visit his family.

The main storyline is a dead professor who was cultivating an extinct plant. But the really special part about this episode was that viewers got to vote on the ending, decide ‘whodunnit.’

About the Blog

This is a place to share my love and excessive fandom of film, actors, and television. I gush a lot, and I complain a lot, usually not simultaneously.

I share my take on the latest movies I’ve seen (some new, some new to me, and some classics that are worth a rewatch), and a little promotion here and there for shows or films that I feel deserve a little more attention than they’re getting.

So, kick back, settle in, switch on, tune in, or whatever you have to do and join in on the love for all things that move on-screen.
