Since Elementary was the only new episode last Thursday, I figured I’d lump it in with Sunday’s recaps to lengthen things up a bit. Turns out I didn’t need to! Plenty of new stuff going on to speculate about.
Elementary
Watson looks like she’s trying to search out her next sober companion in this episode while Holmes tries to convince her to take him up on his apprenticeship offer.
A woman is murdered and after some careful observation, Holmes deduces that she and her husband were spies. As it turns out the daughter is the one who killed her mother, though it was an accident.
Watson was referred to another addict to take up with after she and Sherlock’s time is over, but with an old foe’s return next episode, it doesn’t look like Watson is going to be able to offer her new companion as much attention as she gave Sherlock. Though, it’s unlikely that anyone would need as much as Holmes did.
Revenge
Emily stages a break-up with Aiden to get closer to Daniel at Victoria’s prompting. Nolan is helping Daniel with something that seems to be for the Initiative. Jack is arrested for drugs when he tries to get the new bar partners arrested for them.
The big win is Emily’s–when the Judge who presided over her father’s trial appears in the Hamptons with his wife, Emily devises a way to bring his misdeeds to light. Emily tracks down a letter written by the judge’s aide proving that he knew of jury tampering in her father’s trial and shows it to the judge’s wife. She gets the Judge’s wife to admit to knowing the jury was tampered with, as well as that it was she who wrote that letter to David Clarke. As a result, she not only blemishes her husband’s superior bench record, but also shows the physical abuse suffered at the Judge’s hand.
I’m kind of happy that Daniel and Emily are reconciling, even if it’s just for appearances in Emily’s plans. I think Daniel’s actually a better match for her, if it weren’t for his family. Aiden’s the James Bond. You have fun with the good looking espionage guy for a while, but Daniel’s the one you still end up marrying.
Even though I’ve watch soaps for over 10 years, it still amazes me that Victoria and Conrad never cease in their efforts to manipulate, cover up, and toy with people’s lives. Emily has a primary motivation–revenge, but the Greysons just can’t help themselves when they see something not going their way. They have to intervene and pull strings to redirect the course of events.
Happy Endings
Penny and Brad accidentally kill Alex’s racist parrot after gluing Alex’s plate back together that they also broke. Kind of weird seeing Penny so devious and covering up the bird’s death, but it was pretty funny watching Brad try not to spill the beans.
As it turns out, it was Alex’s mistake that actually killed the Parrot. Alcohol and parrots don’t mix, apparently.
Jane and Dave try to set Max up, but they wind up setting him up with two guys who are exactly like them. Max is understandably weirded out, but it all works out.
Don’t Trust the B—- in Apartment 23
June meets her new nemesis at work, and discovers how far she’ll go to beat her. Chloe tries to help, but when she finds out that the nemesis, Fox, is just like her, they become fast friends.
James and Mark try to come up with the right thing to tell June in her going away card, and while James discovers something odd about a method an acting coach once used, Mark doesn’t figure out what to say to June until she shows up at the coffee shop again.
Mark is nice and all, but he hasn’t done anything really great to show that we should be rooting for him, let alone rooting for him and June.
Up Next:
CBS Monday is still on break, but there are some decent reruns if you want to relive the fun. It’s an all new Tuesday for New Girl, Go On, The New Normal, Happy Endings, Don’t Trust the B—-, Parenthood and Private Practice, not to mention, the season premiere we’ve been waiting for–Justified!
So, apparently 666 Park Avenue was cancelled, and ABC has decided to do double the Happy Endings and Don’t Trust hte B—- on Sunday nights following Revenge in addition to its regular Tuesday airdates. Fine by me! The more the merrier!
Nashville also returns 1/9 with a new episode, along with new episodes of Chicago Fire, AHS, and Guys with Kids. Last Resort and Grey’s return 1/10 with new episodes, as well as new Elementary, and the beginning of the regular season of the new show 1600 Penn on NBC Thursdays.
This show actually debuted its pilot in December, but the pilot and the second episode will appear on Thursday if you want to skip the second half of Last Resort to tune in. It’s probably on Hulu or NBC.com as well if you want to catch up early. I’m interested to see what they’ve done with it, as I’m a big Bill Pullman fan, but a comedy about the White House seems like it could get contrived and gimmicky. But, BONUS: Chuck Finley, aka Bruce Campbell, our favorite mojito-loving powerhouse from Burn Notice has a guest appearance on 1600 Penn coming up in just a few weeks (February-ish)!
