First off, I have to admit I was a little out of it Monday night. I had a really crappy day and it was really difficult to follow along with everybody including the Whedony Twitter chat, which I tried following along with the conversation, but was not able to participate.
Anyway, here we go with the recaps!
How I Met Your Mother
This episode focused on Robin trying to find Barney’s playbook in some secret compartment in his apartment to show Patrice he wasn’t the guy she thought he was. She ultimately found it… along with Ted and Lily who were also there on their own adventures.
Ted was tracking down some things that were originally his property that somehow ended up at Barney’s, and Lily was over there breastfeeding because her apartment has gotten a little bit crowded lately. Meanwhile Barney’s still hanging out with Patrice, but when she discovers that he has a playbook, she’s not sure that they can keep going out. Robin wants to have an intervention for Barney about Patrice, but the gang decides that it’s Robin who needs the intervention.I really wish they’d stop making Robin into such a psycho ex–it is not who her really character is. I know the ultimate point is to get her and Barney back together, but this seems kind of the wrong way to go about it.
2 Broke Girls
This was the 1 hour block in which the girls open the cupcake shop! To put it gently, business is a little bit slow. Also, Sophie’s contractor fell through and she gets really depressed because she lost her dream, so Max suggests she can participate in their dream.
But when Sophie gets into the cupcake shop, she starts changing everything: they start selling hoagies and she wants Caroline and Max to dress up like cupcakes and hand out flyers for free cupcakes out on the sidewalk!
Meanwhile, Max is having fun with her blow dried hair cut (getting blown, she says) getting back at her old boyfriends. She even came up with a “suck it face” to prove that she’s done well for herself, so they can all “suck it”.
Johnny (Nick Zano), the artist who was engaged when he and Max met, returns to ask if they can back together. They do briefly until she realizes that they really don’t work together when they’re both unattached, so they break up again.
I was surprised that this was not the finale because it was a full hour of the show, but they’re still going to come back next week and do another half hour show. This will be the winter finale for all the CBS Monday shows as the following week is Christmas Eve.
Hawaii Five O
This was actually kind of a strange episode to watch because there was a little girl in Grace’s Girl Scouts troop (I’m not sure if it was actually the Girl Scouts, but it was some kind of organization like that) who was way too mature for her age.
Tom Arnold guest stars as a jewel thief, or rather he steals some diamonds off the plane he was on and jumped out. The mature little girl, Lucy, is trying to get her first aid badge and finds him wounded in in the forest.
When McGarrett goes to check on what’s going on, they get taken hostage. It was most bizarre because this little girl talks like a grown-up. She has a major vocabulary for a 10 year old and is really, really mature for her age.
I’m blaming the writers on that one. I know she was a major character in this episode’s plot, but it rang false to have such mature lines delivered from a kid. Even one as smart as her.
In any case, all’s well that ends well. Jewel thieves get caught; Danno saves the day; and the little girls all get their badges.
Up next:
We have a recap of Tuesday night with New Girl, Parenthood, Don’t Trust the B—- in Apartment 23, and we’ll catch up later this week with Private Practice and Happy Endings. Wednesday night, we just have Chicago Fire and American Horror Story. Thursday is a full plate including a 1 hour finale of Up All Night and then next week, everybody’s going on vacation.
CBS Monday will still air next Monday, ABC Tuesday’s still on as well, while NBC Tuesday and Thursday are off for the winter break next week. Next Wednesday, I think, the only thing on is Chicago Fire. (Not sure about AHS… it may be taking a week or two off for the holiday.) Next Thursday, there’s a 2 HOUR Burn Notice finale! Hells to the yeah! ABC and NBC are going on break this week, so they will not interfere with the finale. It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia is also still continuing on next Thursday and that’s far as the schedule goes!
Look for more catch ups soon!
BONUS: This was the first ever post that I sent not only via email, but also on my new phone that does speech to text! I dictated almost this entire post just going back to edit for punctuation and auto-correct errors. How freaking cool is that? Thanks, technology! You’re making my work so my easier on my strained eyes and carpal tunnel-prone fingers and hands!
