American Horror Story 11/28/12
Lana escapes Dr. Thredson! Yay! Lana hitchhikes with a suicidal guy and gets sent back to Briarcliff rather than the regular hospital. Boo! Seriously, what is wrong with the universe that she comes so far only to get screwed over again and put back right where she started?
Angel of Death arrives to seemingly combat the demon residing in Sister Mary Eunice, at least in passing. And, you should recognize the Angel of Death as Frances Conroy who played the older version of Moira, the maid in season one.

Holiday episode of American Horror Story? Can we expect anything other than a bloody Christmas? The episode starts out with a man who likes to go around killing people on Christmas because they’ve lost the meaning of the holiday.
Flashing back to the year before, the same man takes a chunk out of a man’s face at the asylum on Christmas, causing Sister Jude to make a ruling that the patients will never enjoy another Christmas at Briarcliff. Now that Sister Mary Eunice is running things, Christmas, and this particularly violent patient, are back out of confinement.
The best part: Lana tells Kit that Dr. Thredson is behind the murders and that with her testimony, he won’t go to jail. But even better, Thredson comes to recapture her and instead, she and Kit end up putting him in lock-up! Woohoo! The question is whether they will be able to keep him there long enough to prove Kit’s innocence.

This is the big concert episode that probably a lot of people have been waiting all season for–Juliette and Rayna singing together. As predicted, they can’t agree on anything, but finally, they write a song together specifically for the show.
Still leading up to the big Juliette Barnes/Rayna James tour idea, which I still am not crazy about either. They made it work one night. It’s not easy doing it night after night for weeks or months on end. But with Juliette’s little shoplifting extravaganza and Rayna and Deacon splitting up before their small venue tour, it is probably still going to happen.
Good news: Scarlett and Avery finally called it quits. And, things are looking up for her and Gunnar’s chances finally!

Teddy’s “affair” comes out, and he explains how their relationship stemmed from his little financial situation at the bank. While Rayna is not happy that he’s a thief, even if it means he’s not a cheater, and as much as she would like to be angry at him for the whole thing, she decides that it’s best for her daughters if they stand together through the media feeding frenzy.
Gunnar finally realizes that he’s not just being protective of Scarlett–he has feelings for her. He meets up with her at the bar before their shift and tells her how he feels, and kisses her. It’s a great kiss for about two seconds before Scarlett panics and backs away.
“You can’t just go around kissing people whenever you feel like it!” she exclaims.
“When should you?” Gunnar says.
I was so disappointed with this outcome–I mean, yes, she has to overreact at first because she thinks he’s still with the girl from the record company, but after he tells her they broke up (which maybe he should have mentioned before the kissing started, but he’s cute, so we’ll let him get away with that), she should have come around on the idea. Instead, she says they need some time apart on the songwriting front.
If these two aren’t together, or at least getting there, within the first few episodes after the show returns from break, this show is going to lose my interest. It’s been pushing its luck for weeks now, but that will be the last straw.
Meanwhile, Juliette gets to meet Sean’s family. She goes to church, sings with the choir, has dinner at their house, wins over his little sister, but as good girl as she manages to appear, Sean’s mother tells her that she is never going to become a part of their family.
They spent a long time bringing him up to be the man he is and instilling the values and creating his squeaky clean image, no matter what Juliette does, she will not tarnish that.
Juliette’s response–as usual, wanting what she is told she can’t have–is to plan a special candlelit evening at her house with Sean to–wait for it–propose! And that’s the winter finale cliffhanger. You’re welcome.
I was actually drawn back into Juliette’s corner with this episode. She really was doing a great job winning the family over, I thought, and she was very conservative, very sweet, polite, friendly, appreciative. She never had the picture perfect family, and having the appearance of one, even if it was only for a day, was good for her morale.
I kind of understand where Sean’s mother is coming from–Juliette hasn’t exactly been painted as a saint in her mind, plus she is dating her oldest and only son–but Juliette went a long way to prove that she wasn’t entirely worthy of the bad reputation she had, and she actually was a decent person who cared for Sean.
I would have thought that Sean’s mother could at least start accepting her enough to give her a chance to show the family that she wasn’t really a “bad girl”. Disappointing.
We’ll have to see how it all plays out when Sean responds to Juliette’s proposal. I have a feeling with him being so conservative, he might say no just so he can ask her himself later on.
