**UPDATED** 12/12/12
I noticed that I forgot to look up an actor’s name before I published. Sorry all! The name is updated now under the New Girl episode section.
Up All Night “The Game of Life” 11/29/12
I think this one should have been called “Cabin Fever” instead of “The Game of Life”, but either title would not improve things much. Chris and Reagan go up with their neighbors the “Mardens” whom they’ve mistakenly been calling the “Martins” for a long time to their cabin for a little vacation, escape to nature, and “Funlympics”. Corny as all hell pretty much the whole way around. The only redeeming quality is how cute Amy looked the entire time.
Up All Night “I Can’t Quit You” 12/6/12
Chris and Scott are having trouble nailing their bids for construction jobs (little construction humor there 🙂 while Reagan reconnects with Scott’s ex-wife who she hadn’t talked to since the divorce. And Ava is being Ava while she chauffers around a family to try to “inspire” them without the platform of her show anymore. Plus Chris starts smoking again.
As it turns out, both Chris and Reagan are lying to each other about something, and the funniest part is when and how Reagan finds out about Chris’s smoking–his nicotine patch accidentally gets stuck to her and makes her feel like she just swallowed a bunch of “pool water”.
Also, Reagan gets back on “team Scott” when she realizes he has a reason for hating his ex-wife.
Sidenote–the Waitress is showing up EVERYWHERE! Just realized that today on IMDB. Regular on Sunny, she was Nick’s ex on New Girl for a few eps, and now she shows up in Up All Night as Scott’s ex-wife? Waitress is moving up! 😀
New Girl 11/27 “Eggs”
Nick, eternal non-finisher, decides he’s finally going to write Z is for Zombie. And, terrible thought it may be, he actually finishes his zombie novel! In fourteen hours. Which is a stretch. But, it was on notebook paper, so I don’t think it can qualify as a full-length novel, but kudos to him for sitting down and finishing it.
Schmidt is still having trouble satisfying his boss (Carla Gugino) and they come to an agreement that it’s not that they’re not good at sex, it’s just that they don’t have an emotional connection and she can’t enjoy it. Schmidt realizes he was in love with Cece and that’s why the sex was so good.
When Jess’s friend Sadie (the gynecologist) gets pregnant and discusses a particular test that says you lose 90% of your viable eggs by the time you’re 30, Jess freaks out. She and Cece get the test done themselves and discover that while Jess is crazy fertile for her age, Cece is running out of time.
I have a lot of eggs. Unfortunately, I don’t have a lot of sausage. -Jess
I wanted to mention one scene in particular because it was the only scene that I’ve really loved Jess in since a long while. Jess returns from the doctor and goes into Nick’s room to share the news. He says he knew she’d eventually come to him to impregnate her and she says, yeah, let’s get going, giving a soft smile and pretending to move in to kiss him.
A lot of the recent episodes have Jess acting neurotic and kind of like a really pretty cartoon character, which is kind of sad, but scenes like this, where I think I see more of Zooey Deschanel than the character she plays, are the really great ones. I love Jess’s quirkiness and her unique way of viewing the world, but I think the writers have gone too far in accentuating that, kind of like the writers on Friends really tweaked out on Monica’s neat freak OCD thing in the later seasons. I hope they realize that it’s not as funny and it’s kind of destroying the character that I started watching the show for in the first place.
