Tuesday Comedies: Thanksgiving

26 November 2012 by Jess

Go On

Thanksgiving episode: Ryan’s old friend from college comes to visit (special guest: Lauren Graham from Parenthood!) and Ryan and Steven can’t decide who gets to go for her.

Since she’s on another show, it’s pretty clear that neither of them is going to win this one, but it’s somewhat entertaining, nonetheless.

Ryan decides to host Thanksgiving at the office since he has to host his show that day, and he invites the group along to run some interference with John Cho.

FYI: Booze Rodeo–pretty entertaining game. (Going around a bar and drinking other people’s drinks before you get punched in the face. Whoever gets the most drinks wins!)

The New Normal

It’s Thanksgiving at Brian and David’s house this year too. Shania and Brian go to get a fresh turkey, not realizing that they get to pick it out and kill it themselves. Once Shania realizes this, she wants a vegetarian Thanksgiving, and she and Brian buy all the turkeys and bring them home.

Barry Bostwick makes an appearance as David’s father–awesome.

Everyone decides to invite people they need to forgive for ruining Thanksgivings past, and when they all ruin Thanksgiving again, the gang sends them home to enjoy their tofurkey dinner in peace. However, when the tofurkey turns out to be a bad idea, they all order pizza. Saw that one coming.

It was really great to see Brian put Nana in her place here. I swear, she was about to cry. We all love Nana for her comic relief, but she is pure evil sometimes, so it was kind of fun to see her get what was coming to her just once.

Happy Endings

MTV Real World flashback to where Brad and Jane first met, and where Max “comes out”, though it was interpreted as “I’m Greg” instead of “I’m gay”. Alex starts to get insecure about her relationship with Dave due to something that Penny accidentally let slip.

I’m still waiting on the Penny and Dave thing to play out! Dave gets douchier and weirder every episode while Penny gets more lovable every episode, but I still think that would be a really fun storyline to follow! Nothing against Alex, she’s hilarious and lovable in her own way, but she and Dave just are not a good fit.

New Girl

Jess and the guys host Thanksgiving at their apartment with her parents, guest appearances by Rob Reiner and Jamie Lee Curtis. Apparently Jess has a “parent trap” fantasy which she has attempted several times over the years  to get her estranged parents back together. However, this time, it works! Though Jess may never know.

Best part was the casting on this one–pitch perfect choosing these actors as Jess’s parents.

Don’t Trust the B—- in Apartment 23

Chloe drags June along to her parents’ house for Thanksgiving in an elaborate scheme to get money out of them, involving putting June in a wheelchair so she can relate to Chloe’s mother (also in a wheelchair).

Leather coat guy James van der Beek? Win. 😀

James goes to the soup kitchen to serve food and hopefully get a holiday photo op, but when he leaves early, they come after him, blackmailing him with bad press if he doesn’t come back.

Silver lining: after the whole ordeal, James is 2 pounds underweight for holiday season!

Chloe really pulls through on this one despite her seemingly diabolical plan. She hands June half the money her parents gave her so that June can afford to go home for Christmas. As bitchy as she can get, and as unbelievably crazy as she seems to be sometimes, there is always a method to her madness and sometimes, it’s for an altruistic reason.

More catch-ups!

About the Blog

This is a place to share my love and excessive fandom of film, actors, and television. I gush a lot, and I complain a lot, usually not simultaneously.

I share my take on the latest movies I’ve seen (some new, some new to me, and some classics that are worth a rewatch), and a little promotion here and there for shows or films that I feel deserve a little more attention than they’re getting.

So, kick back, settle in, switch on, tune in, or whatever you have to do and join in on the love for all things that move on-screen.
