Mixing things up with the recaps since I’m so far behind. All comedies here!
Go On
I think I usually miss the opening credits, because it seems like I saw them for the first time! Ryan makes friends with Owen, whose brother is in a coma, by playing Halo pretty much non-stop.
This is the reason I love this show. These guys were complete strangers, drawn together by a common emotion, grief, and they really have come together in great ways over the past few weeks.
John Cho is a seriously underrated character here too–he’s not on-screen much, but when he is, he’s a crack-up.
This is what happens when you bring your bummer people here! -Steven
We all need somebody to lean on. -Ryan, singing, thinking he’s woken Owen’s brother up from his coma (not really his brother)
The New Normal
Nana gets a Twitter account, and Brian’s secret future wedding video goes viral after Nana finds it and tweets it as “The Gayest Thing Ever”. Everyone realizes how reliant they are on technology, and Shania convinces everyone to revert to the 18th century lifestyle with candles, no cell phones, and other luxuries.
I really want to see @nanaurbusiness on Twitter! If Nana had a Twitter account, I’d get tweets to my phone so I could laugh all day. Why is this thing not materializing?
Happy Endings
Max and Brad become barmitzvah emcees, aka Boyz II Menorah. Penny has to ward off newly mitzvahed Jewish boys. Jane helps Dave and Alex “spice up” their love life, which has become a little too comfortable, boring and a little gross.
These guys do a lot of bits, which can get a little old or feel a little over-played, but they have a lot of fun, and that’s what makes this show so watchable. Plus they invent (or bring attention to) new words almost every episode, which is always entertaining.
Up All Night
It’s Thanksgiving at the Brinkleys! That was probably too much enthusiasm. They try to fly to Chris’s family’s house on Thanksgiving, and their flight gets cancelled. They stay, and try to prepare an inpromptu dinner at home, but are bombarded by their neighbors (who ate at 11 AM), Ava and Walter, and Scott and his friends, who assumed they’d be out of town.
Mayhem ensues. Not one of their best.
It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia – “Charlie’s Mom Gets Cancer”
Diddy as an herbalist with a band singing “We Got the Funk”, whose name is Dr. Jinx. That right there could have sold me on the show. Charlie badmouths the the church. Frank tricks the gang into thinking that Dennis and Dee’s mom is still alive and she buried all her money in her grave, so they go dig her up. Dennis, who has been unable to feel things lately, bursts into tears at the sight of his mother’s corpse.
And of course, Charlie’s mom tells them she has cancer. They throw a Beef, Beer and Jesus at the bar to raise money for her hospital bills, with Artemis doing make-up to have her look like she’s had chemotherapy and has lesions. Then it turns out, she doesn’t have cancer–she just wanted money to fix a statue she and Mac’s mom accidentally destroyed.
Another win by Charlie and Dee in this episode.
