Happy Endings
Dave and Alex are trying to keep things casz (i.e. short for casual–don’t ask) and they end up making it weird. Alex talks street to get Dave a date with the cute barmaid and Dave keeps referring to him and Alex being “bros”.
Jane has no idea that Brad is pretending to be a stay-at-home husband and has actually found a job. To hide this information, he is Skyping her at work with an elaborately constructed a painted backdrop that looks like their apartment. Of course, she eventually catches him and finds out that he’s been lying to her for three weeks and they have a naked woman vs. suit man argument in front of a bubble bath, which he dove into fully suited up.
Meanwhile, Penny fell down some stairs after she was supposed to go base-jumping and is in a partial body cast. Max gets a crush on her physical therapist and conspires to keep her in the cast so he can flirt with the therapist. She claims Max is “Misery-ing” her–trapping her in her cast and drugging her with Lunesta.
Overall, same zany stuff we’re used to from these guys, but I want the Dave and Alex thing over with! She left him at the altar, and even though Dave is kind of a wank, in a loveable, dopey way, I wanted to see the Dave and Penny thing play out! However, Dave and Alex announce they’re moving in together in the last scene–much to the disappointment of their friends who all say it’s a terrible idea–so the Dave/Penny saga will have to wait.
Don’t Trust the B- in Apartment 23
James Van Der Beek gets letters every year from his castmates at Dawson’s Creek suggesting a reunion episode, not knowing that it’s actually Chloe who sends them. And June, also not knowing about Chloe’s letters, puts together a presentation to try to convince James to do the reunion for her friends in Indiana and the teenage girls who grew up with that show.
However, James and June realize that they’ve been living in the past and they make an effort move forward, in part by burning all of the old Dawson’s Creek crap, which burns and blazes brilliantly in a little rowboat on the lake in Central Park. Best part of the whole show–Dawson’s Creek shit blown up in a rowboat at the end.
Parenthood
Loaded episode, try to keep up.
Christina goes into surgery to get her breast tumor removed. Adam’s brother and sisters are very supportive, to a fault, and it’s really great for me to see a family that’s so close like that. My family has always been separated by distance, so it’s nice to see that they’re all able to come together for that. It turns out that her cancer is actually more aggressive than they originally thought, so we’ll have to see what happens with that. Haddie is really worried and wants to quit school for the semester to come home and help out, but Adam and Christina are deadset against it.
Sarah and Drew move in with Mark, which Drew is upset about. Sarah jumped into the move without considering Drew as much as she could have done, and he’s aware of it. This hit home for me, having been through a similar situation when I was about that age. However, I didn’t get to move in with Mark (Jason Ritter). Which would have been awesome.
Amber is dating the young vet friend of Zeek’s, and is a little surprised by his old-fashioned dating habits. I think could be good for her. Somebody semi-stable, got a decent head on his shoulders, compared with the rockers and bad boys she’s dated before. I loved the bit with her and Jonathan Tucker (mostly because he is freakin’ awesome) last season, but I think this guy might be a better fit. Unless he has any major post-war psychological issues, which we’ll have to wait to find out about.
I was totally blown away by Max’s speech running for student council president. He started off with the vending machines, which was predictable, but after he realized that wasn’t enough, he started talking about what Haddie said to him, how he was smart and tenacious, and how his Asperger’s is a disadvantage in social situations, but helps him in other areas. It was so great to see him step up like that. I wished Haddie would have filmed it on her smart phone so Adam and Christina could watch it later. It was that good.
This week:
Look for a catch-up on Go On, The New Normal and Private Practice soon–I have some appointments Wednesday, so it might not be up until late Wednesday or Thursday.
Also, Wednesday night, we have new episodes of Guys With Kids, American Horror Story, Chicago Fire, and Nashville.
I’m going to give Chicago Fire another couple weeks, but so far, Nashville has that timeslot nailed down pretty well. In spite of the music.
Enjoy the rest of the week, and be sure to watch American Horror Story at 10 PM ET!
