The Super Week-Long Catch-Up! Almost There!

21 October 2012 by Jess

Lots to cover, almost all of Thursday night’s shows, so we’ll get right to it!

Beauty and the Beast

I am a little surprised by how much fun this show is. It’s a little corny, but it’s also pretty good. I think this episode was a little better than last week’s. It is actually sort of a cop show, with Cat and her partner solving crime around the city, with Vincent intervening every now and again if things get really dicey.

Got a little action scene thrown in too, with Cat fighting off a guy who she accidentally hit with her car, but then seemed to have been following her, since he got right up and fought her. She held her own really well, but still had to be saved by Vincent at the end when the guy got the drop on her and tried to strangle her. If they have fight scenes like that in every episode, this show has potential!

It looks like they’re going to be friends, and while Cat will probably never stop looking for an explanation about her mother’s death, she won’t try to drag Vincent into it anymore. Not on purpose, at least. But it is looking pretty likely that they are going to be tangoing pretty often and their histories are going to come back to haunt them.

Elementary

This one was pretty twisted. Kidnappings and child molesters. Holmes is on top of the case before he even gets called in on it, and Watson is worried about him because he hasn’t slept in a few days, and he keeps telling her how energetic and focused he is. There is a decent twist in the plot as well in this episode, and Holmes finds himself played like a fiddle by a very intelligent and demented criminal, but as is the norm, he gets the better of the bad guy in the end.

I haven’t said enough about Aidan Quinn’s role on this show, so I wanted to take a few notes here. Aidan Quinn is one of those people you always enjoy watching and almost always end up rooting for because he just has a way about him, that quiet, but not quite shy, sweetness and simplicity.

Going back to one of his early movies, Desperately Seeking Susan, and then the first movie I saw him in, Practical Magic, all the way up to 2012 and his regular role on Elementary, Quinn always remains himself and yet manages to transform himself into the character he plays. Business man, cop, underemployed New York delivery boy, whatever he is, he is always that man you can’t help but root for.

It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia

“The Gang Recycles their Trash” focuses on the gang recycling old ideas that didn’t work in the past and trying to make them work by trying something different. However, they do what they always do, which is fly by the seat of their pants and fall back into their own habits.

I keep thinking there is nothing they can do that will shock me because I’ve seen so many other shocking and ridiculous things on this show, but they are always full of surprises. Dee in black face and the guys trying to pick up the city’s trash in a limo? Come on. You can’t tell me with a straight face that that’s not gold. In a really effed up way. Which is why we love them.

Grey’s Anatomy

Watching this episode, and listening to Kepner talk about “revirginizing”, I had an idea. ABC, or me, if I were to beat them to it 🙂 could make a killing off Grey’s Anatomy-isms. Putting together a dictionary or compilation or something of all the words this show has invented over the years would be awesome. I’d buy it. I might not buy it new or from the bookstore directly, but I’d buy it. Revirginizing, McDreamy and McSteamy, being someone’s “person”, and so many more quotable and entertaining phrases and vocabulary words that have sprung up over the years.

The episode was actually a little dark, with the doctors trying to decide whether to accept the extremely generous settlement from the airplane manufacturers. Bailey tries to get used to having her former interns and residents using the attendings’ lounge. Arizona is still struggling with her new handicap and how to live with it. And there’s still something between Avery and Kepner, which culminates in the saw-it-coming make-out in an office.

However, I think there’s still something between Cristina and Owen, as well. They have a phone call, initiated to discuss the settlement, but Cristina is clearly a little lonely and she obviously misses being able to talk to Owen and Meredith so regularly. We’ll have to wait and see whether she decides to come back to Seattle Grace, but I’m still waiting to see if she and Owen get back together. He may have cheated, but he’s still a catch, and one of the few who can handle her neuroses.

Up next:

I’m almost caught up. I still would like to do a post on Underemployed, and I still plan on doing a review of The Descendents, so hopefully I can get to those this week (preferably before Underemployed runs episode 2 on Tuesday!).

Sunday night is Revenge, and as I mentioned last week, I’m done with 666 Park Avenue. I’ve watched it and watched it, hoping something would happen, something would be explained or revealed, but they keep going for the creep factor and there’s not enough meat to the story to keep me going. It’ll probably stay on in the background after Revenge, but I’m done trying to figure out what’s going on.

SEASON 2 PROMO: DON’T TRUST THE B—- IN APT. 23 –Enjoy 🙂

Monday night, the regular networks are on break for the presidential debate, so Always Happy to Entertain You will also take the night off. The rest of the week is jam-packed with new episodes, though, including premieres on ABC Tuesday of Happy Endings and Don’t Trust the B—- in Apt. 23. As much as I like New Girl, Go On, and The New Normal, I really love these shows too, so since it’s premiere week, ABC will have my attention during that time slot.

Anywho, enjoy the rest of the weekend and we’ll see you again tomorrow for a recap of Revenge!

About the Blog

This is a place to share my love and excessive fandom of film, actors, and television. I gush a lot, and I complain a lot, usually not simultaneously.

I share my take on the latest movies I’ve seen (some new, some new to me, and some classics that are worth a rewatch), and a little promotion here and there for shows or films that I feel deserve a little more attention than they’re getting.

So, kick back, settle in, switch on, tune in, or whatever you have to do and join in on the love for all things that move on-screen.
