Parenthood
Major drama in this episode: Julia quits her job after realizing that she wants to devote herself to her family. Hank kisses Sarah (still always want to call her Lorelai!) in the dark room at work. Christina tells the family about her cancer diagnosis.
It was jam-packed with issues: Julia looked like she was having a panic attack trying to cook the kids breakfast. I am not sure that quitting her job is going to completely take care of that. I think she will probably need a little more stabilizing efforts to get back to feeling normal again.
Did I tell you, or did I tell you about the Hank and Sarah thing? Nailed it. 🙂 I don’t think it’s over. I think Sarah will be in a place to push back at some point. There has always been a bit of iffy-ness about her relationship with Mark because of the age difference and the maturity thing. She is jumping into things with Mark again, moving in together, to try to prove that she isn’t attracted to Hank or whatever, but I think it might backfire.
Christina finally talks about her cancer with Haddie, Max, and Amber. The show ends with her telling the rest of the family, who no doubt will react to all of it next week.
New Girl (Original airdate: 10/2)
Schmidt pretends he’s a Romney to get laid and Jess tries, inadvertently, to use Nick as a “fluffer” to take care of the emotional needs before meeting up with Sam, who takes care of the physical needs. I was not previously aware of the term “fluffer” or the contexts in which it is typically used, but it is a hilarious addition to this episode.
Go On
Ryan eats his feelings and the group leader Lauren isn’t in love with her boyfriend despite how awesome he is. That’s about it. Good jokes, good team support.
The question remains: will Ryan and Lauren get to the point at which they put that support group dynamic aside? It’s pretty clear that the show wants to play up a romantic element there, but considering Ryan’s wife just died and Lauren is technically in a serious relationship, that will have to wait until things are further down the road.
Vegas
I think if this show focused more on one side of the story, the mob side or the law side, I could get into it. But as it is, the pace is too slow and there’s not enough to the story to fill an entire hour’s slot, meaning that the scenes and dialogue get drawn out longer than they have to be. Unfortunately, I think this one is getting crossed of the list.
