How I Met Your Mother
Battle of the sexes, begin! Barney and Quinn square off with prenups that probably weigh as much as they do, and in the process, all the other couples discover their own frustrations with each other.
Apparently we’re about to see a series of break-ups this fall, as older Ted narrator opens the episode with that foreshadow. Barney and Quinn are the first to go–predictably, since we know he eventually marries Robin. But who will be next?
Partners
Sadly, this episode was even more forgettable than the first. I’m trying to enjoy it while it lasts, but this one just doesn’t have the comic chops that Will and Grace had. It has its moments of being sweet and funny, but they’re too few and far between. Hard to say whether CBS will cut a show out of the middle of its line-up, though.
2 Broke Girls
I think the best part about this show is how disgustingly raunchy it can be. Because that’s how people really talk sometimes. They bust out the dirty jokes, the naughty euphemisms, and the not so subtle joshing when among friends.
The Martha Stewart card is still in play for the girls’ cupcake business, but considering how little they’re able to save, they’ve still got a long way to go!
Hawaii Five-0
I really love that “paddle-out” tradition in Hawaii where they have a sort of funeral at sea and scatter the ashes of a loved one–in this case, it’s Chin Ho’s wife, Malia. I don’t know why, but it just seems really beautiful and poetic to me.
Cue show start:
In this episode, we see the return of Ed Asner as a seemingly former thief. However, if you’ll remember, last season, he played it cool right up to the end where he went 40s gangster on a woman for a briefcase full of diamonds and walked off into the sunset/night (sorry, can’t recall that part of the shot).
This episode centers on an art heist and kidnapping, with Asner’s character pulling more strings than he seems capable of at his age. He really does make a great villain, despite his appearance as a sweet, naive, old man.
At the end of the show, we also learn that McGarrett’s mother is still in town. Why did she stay? Why did she let Wo Fat get away? I’m sure Steve will ask her when he sees her, but I have a feeling this story is far from over.
This week:
Tuesday night, we have a two hour line-up of comedies on Fox and NBC, followed by Private Practice/Parenthood. Amy Brenneman will be live-tweeting Private Practice, so be sure to check in on Twitter for that if you’re going with ABC (10 PM ET).
However, I think I’m going to go with Parenthood because I’m anxious to see what happens with Christina’s cancer, and it looks like Ray Romano’s character, Hank, is going to get a little backstory this week with the introduction of his daughter.
Since it’s just down to just The Mob Doctor on Monday catch-ups, I think I’ll just add that show recap into the next post on Tuesday night’s shows.
Don’t blink! We’ve got three more nights of awesome television this week, and brand new premieres starting next week!
Stay tuned!
