With all the major premieres out of the way this week, Yahoo! has already put out their list of shows they think might not make it through the season. I usually hate this list, because they always seem to pick the new shows I love, but this time, I actually agree with a few of the shows on this list.
According to Yahoo! TV, the following shows are in danger of getting canceled.
- The Mob Doctor Sadly, this isn’t surprising. As much as I enjoy a different kind of doctor show, it’s not compelling enough to gain the viewership it needs to keep going.
- Partners David Krumholtz is great–we’ve already agreed on this–but this particular role doesn’t allow him to flex his comedic chops to their full extent (enjoy the mixed metaphors 🙂 I figured it’d be automatically in since it has a great lead-in audience, but unfortunately, CBS might have to run reruns of something else in its place if the numbers don’t pick up.
- Animal Practice Again, not a huge surprise. Like I said, the monkey stole the show. And you can’t afford to run a sitcom based entirely on the antics of a monkey in a pet hospital, with a few vets alongside him.
- The Neighbors I did tune into this one on Wednesday, just to see if it was as bad as it sounded, and it was… just terrible. So I didn’t bother including it in my Wednesday night review. The aliens are so cheesy, and the family is not likeable enough. Even with the lead-in this show gets, Modern Family, The Middle, etc., this thing is just not funny.
- Guys with Kids And so, all three of the shows I watched on Wednesday are on this list. Which is too bad. I thought this one might have a chance. You know where this one might fit in well? TBS. Load it up behind Men at Work and it might do well.
- Ben and Kate Like I said, this one blew all its funniness in the TV spots. It has its moments, but it wasn’t going to last long on my list, so it’s no surprise that it might not last long on Fox’s schedule either.
- Vegas Not sure why this one is on the list. The numbers were pretty good. But I did compare it to Pan Am as an example of a period piece failure, so maybe they overspent on this one (I can’t imagine Michael Chiklis and Dennis Quaid are cheap) and can’t afford to keep it running with the numbers it got? On the other hand, maybe it just got a bad time slot–up against Parenthood and Private Practice on Tuesday nights. They may not be huge shows, but I think they have a loyal enough viewership that enough of them (me included), didn’t catch this one live.
- Last Resort Sad day! I agree with Yahoo! that this one is in one of the shittiest possible time slots they could give it, right BEFORE Grey’s Anatomy? Especially on a night on ABC where the viewership is probably mostly female? It’s kind of a guy show. I’m thinking if this had a Friday night slot, it could probably give Blue Bloods, Fringe, and or Grimm a run for their money.
Yahoo! has the potential body count at 2 shows per channel, just to be fair, probably. We’ll have to wait and see if they’re right, and they aren’t always, about which shows are going to get the ax sometime this season.
Don’t forget: tune in for Revenge tomorrow night on ABC!
