New Girl
So excited to have New Girl back! Waiting to see what happens with Jess’s job situation, as it was a bit of a shock to find out that she gets laid off right off the bat. Obviously a terrible cocktail waitress, but hopefully she can find another job tha twas as fulfilling as teaching was.
I’m still waiting for the Jess and Nick saga to start. They are literally THAT close so many times, but it will probably take some time to get the story moving in that direction.
Schmidt–crossing lines all over the place as usual and Winston is iconically Winston. I only watched the first episode at 7PM MT so will catch up with the second episode tomorrow if I can.
Ben and Kate
This show was a bit of a let down. I love the blond playing Kate, but the previews for this show made it look way funnier than it actually was. Once again, I’ll give it another week or two (possibly two since it’s a sitcom and only a half hour) to convince me it’s awesome, but if not, it’s getting axed from my Tuesday line-up.
Another reason I was unimpressed is because it’s a little too similar to The New Normal, in terms of the pretty blond girl with a young kid thing, and it’s nowhere near as funny or enjoyable as The New Normal. So far, anyway.
Go On
Matthew Perry playing hockey–funny. Matthew Perry playing hockey with Jeremy Roenick and Michael Vartan–awesome with a side of hilarious. Cryin’ King. Loving the new nickname in a really mean, indulgent way. It was funny for this episode, but hopefully they don’t keep it going for too long.
I’m so glad this one seems to be sticking and is actually funny, because after seeing Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip and Mr. Sunshine get cancelled, I want something to keep my favorite “friend” around!
The New Normal
For a comedy, this show sure tackles some tough issues! Both politics and race issues came up in this week’s episode, with both amusing and kind of alarming results. Ellen Barkin is vying desperately for the Queen Bitch award this year as her conniving character, so confusingly called Nana, continues to manipulate people into doing what she wants without them realizing it. Each of the main characters is really great in their own way, making this show really great in a lot of ways, even when it’s not trying to make you laugh.
Private Practice
First off, can we please say something about Addison’s and Violet’s hair? A-mah-zing. This was a pretty heavy episode. I wasn’t crazy about the structure–running through each of the main character’s days and showing a little more information about each scene as you come back to it, but it definitely built up the drama, so it has that going for it.
I’m so glad that Addison and Jake are doing well! I was never a big fan of the Sam/Addison thing, and the only other combo I really enjoyed on this show was the Addison/Pete phase, but I love Benjamin Bratt and his character is really perfect for Addison.
As to Charlotte’s pregnancy, holee cow! Triplets!? When they looked at the monitor, I thought twins, but triplets? Cooper’s swimmers really are Michael Phelps! I have a feeling this pregnancy is not going to go smoothly, nothing like what happened to Violet, but if I’ve learned anything from watching Days of Our Lives for over 10 years (yes, I’m aware of how sad that sounds), a pregnancy like that can never go 100% well.
Last, but not least, Pete died. I’m not sure if this was a plot decision or a cast member decision, but either way, it came out of left field. Pete has been one of my favorites since Addison first came to LA, even before she got the spinoff, and to see him just disappear is crazy. It would have been weirder if he had gone to jail, but now, it’ll be strange not having him around the practice.
The build-up for next week didn’t convince me to watch Private Practice instead of Parenthood, but we’ll see. It was a little too vague.
This week:
Tomorrow, we have new NBC shows, Animal Practice and Guys with Kids. I am considering watching The Neighbors on ABC, but since I don’t watch the other ABC comedies (Modern Family, etc.), I’m not sure I want to throw the odd end of the night one in there. Also, aliens in suburbia? I’m sure it’ll get plenty of viewers based on the lead-in audience it gets, but I’m not sure it actually sounds that good. If I do check in, I’ll post it here.
Also, look for a catch-up post tomorrow afternoon on Tuesday’s episodes of Vegas, The Mindy Project, and Parenthood.
